This would be funny if it wasn't such a serious issue...

Rockstar is losing it's identity here, everything it has built & its empire of epicness is falling down around it with these new measures.

What happens if this infects future GTA's as well?

Could we feasibly witness a GTA where shooting others was removed? This is quite scary to me, is the future of gaming helping randoms set up their crockery set and pouring them a glass of cider? A land in which we must respect the integrity of opponent's mothers and not question their sexual orientation?

I don't want to think about this anymore, I can't deal with this.

I'm guessing that our flower picking trip up Tall Trees is off then :juggle:

Anyway, I didnt spend hours getting chopper griefed in GTA for those bastards at Rockstar to say, "hey Pops, hope the hours of counselling went well but we've bulldozed that nonsense now so that the blessed children of the world can live in peace and harmony"

I spent a good while getting the Hit the Trail achievment and part of the fun was knowing other players would try to kill me therefore making it a really good challenge. Now in FFR you can WALK from Blackwater to Escalera and unlock this achievment! Sort of makes it redundant now. Come on R*, some things are better left untouched. Next they`ll be giving achievments for the longest handstand in McFarlanes Ranch!
.....Mops a tear from his eye from laughing so much......

My xbox still hasn`t asked me to update. Strange?

I'm really not sure why there's been such a backlash against the update. Nobody if forcing you to play Friendly, and it's now quicker to get into Hardcore. It's not going to "dilute the player base" in any noticeable way - the people who played HC before will continue playing HC, and there are so many people playing Normal anyway that a few people leaving to play Friendly won't make any difference. Let's weigh it up...

Pros:

- Easier access to HC
- Possibility of more people playing HC due to easier accessibility
- Possible to grind hideouts with friends with no danger from assholes
- The RedDead.Net Roleplayers can have some fun
- Inexperienced players will go to Friendly instead of annoying everyone in Normal and HC
- Friendly is completely optional

Cons:

- You have to press one more button to get into Normal (which I'm sure you guys are too cool for anyway)
- Uh... it's harder to be a griefer, I guess?

This is not a game where nobody can kill each other and guns are made of candy and everyone picks flowers (no, wait, we do pick flowers). It's the same old RDR you've been playing all along, with a new Wuss Mode to keep the wusses out of your games. Stop whining over nothing.

I think they should take the goddamn six kill streak public enemy thing out of Normal Free Roam.  I don't think you should be penalized for doing something the room supports and condones.  Heres an example all the little "girls" in Friendly Free Roam won't obtain public enemy for picking six flowers in a row will they?  They won't get a bounty for completing six lame repetitive gang hideouts will they?  NO!  Because that's what the room is for.  So why should we be penalized when that's what Normal Free Roam is for now?

I'm hearing you but of all the mindnumbingly tedious griefer threads over the past half year this one has its merits.  As squiz says, its a fundamental shift of policy from a gaming company that some of us have been loyal to for, what is it, 12 years.

TC makes a completely valid point...each to their own and I agree but squiz makes some fucking good points about an outfit that we have/had a lot of time and respect for.

Personally, I play 90% hardcore FR cos thats the way I feel it should be played and enjoy the challenge and 10% normal FR when I want to go "arcade" and just have at it with folk...I really can't see me ever going into FFR unless I turn it into a day trip to the weirdo zoo and
spectate some bizarre griefing

Friendly free roam is an absolute joke, pure and simple, the game is made by ROCKSTAR, and people expect to f*cking play it without being shot at?

The absolute carnage and endless hostility of Rockstar games is what makes them so f*cking awesome, now their reputation is tarnished, they have finally wilted to the masses.

Wana play a game where you don't get shot at? Go play FIFA or the Sims3.

Also, trophies and challenges should be DISABLED in this new pre-school free roam.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Player base is diluted and now broken

So it would seem - none of my friends here in the States have it yet. It's funny, I'd like to be able to at least TRY what's so controversial but I'm being delayed.

All this ranting (from either side of the issue, mind you) reminds me of the day Liars & Cheats was released.
