I feel I should contribute with a tutorial, so if anybody wished to know about "Layer Effects" which I use in some of my sigs to make the background a different colour or put a pattern overlay behind the picture subject without having to cut the image out, then please say. Here are a few examples;

Hey Apache Kid, in your Leigh sig how did you add that yellowish glow to his outline?

That was the original colour of the background before I made it grey. I put a greyscale layer of the picture beneath the full colour one, and when I erased the colour layer on top of the greyscale one I left a small blurred part of the colour layer around Ezio, while the rest of grey.

This is the original picture, I just mirrored it because it looked better or there might of just been an already mirrored picture somewhere.. I'm not sure.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but I've been doing signatures for 10 years now. I use Paint Shop Pro, but I'm sure my tutorials can be adapted to Photoshop. Have a peek and see what ya think!

I get an awful lot of my brushes from deviantart, it is a great place to get some hi-res brushes. I'll post a few downloads up:

Blood Splatter Brushes by VexingArt
Grunge Brushes by KeReN-R
Abstract Grunge Brushes by xALIASx

I use the first set and third set quite a bit..

I think you should make a brushes section on the OP Nex, I think it would help a few people out.

A silly suggestion?
Just a mental congestion...
Left a bad impression?

Using Photoshop!

If you save it as a .png then it should keep the transparency. On a lot of browser it may appear to have a white background or something, but when you open them up again they should be transparent.

Holy crap! What an awesome thread. And I never even knew it was here.

PNG is a newer format designed specifically for transperancy. It's a lot like JPG with good compression (ei. small file size) but with the added awesome of transparency.

So any other people use GIMP?

Yeah I was going to recommend putting in AOL Keyword: "transparent" or use a good search engine like webcrawler or alta vista for more help.
