[Books] What Book are You Currently Reading?
« on: May 31, 2011, 10:21:19 AM »
I thought it might be interesting to have a thread where people talk about the books they are reading.

My current read is "Islands of the Damned" by R.V. Burgin.  It's the memoir of a man who is fighting in the Pacific in WWII.  So far, a fascinating read.  I'm trying to expand my knowledge of history a bit, as I feel I'm not as well-learned in that subject as I should be.

It's definitely a normal departure from my usual Post-Apocalyptic and Zombie Horror.

What are you currently reading?

Oh boy, can't wait 'till the bots find their way to this thread...

Last book I read great acting and cover with the hardcover. Amazon.com was I not better reading, read free online with Dan Brown. I feel very proportionate until main character in the beginning.Friends say link although pages with quality pictures I have.free

On a more serious note, last book I read was "The Crimean War"(link by Orlando Figes. Non-fiction as the name suggests. Thoroughly enjoyed it and didn't notice any errors, but it wasn't until I finished the book I started browsing through some reviews and discovered he shamelessly wrote reviews about his own works on Amazon and reviled those of fellow historians. Needless to say I won't be reading any more of his books.

Do magazines count?

The last book I read that didn't have pictures of naked women in it was Catcher in the Rye I found it under a pile of junk in my room a week ago. I read a few pages and put it down. I plan to finish it though.

In the future, everyone should use eBooks instead of regular paperback books.
Could help the ecosystem....
And the eBook can be solar powered.

Catcher in the Rye.  One of the most overrated books ever, in my opinion.  It's just not that good.

Not as overrated as Huckleberry Finn.

Anyhow, I just recently completed "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown and have read a few pages of Rainbow Six, but I was eying a book on the French Revolution called "Vive la Revolution", so I may pick that up sometime.

My favourite author is Bernard Cornwell, he writes enthralling historical fiction. Best known for the Sharpe series. Though I prefer his other stories such as the The Grail Trilogy, The Saxon books, and The King Arthur trilogy. All bloody and epic. Other favourites of mine include In Cold Blood by Truman Capote and also Dexter which I read before the series started.

I'm currently reading:

The Kite Runner
Sniper on the Eastern Front: The Memoirs of Sepp Allerberger

Just got done with Santiago: A myth of the far Future.

It's a western set in space basically, with all kinds of unique characters. Great read.

Part way through reading The Bourne Identity, never seen the film and want to finish the book before I do.

Just finished An Idiot Abroad: The travel diaries of Karl Pilkington. To sum it up, it was amazing, never found books to portray humour well, but Karl Pilkington has to be the funniest man alive. As good as the TV series, recommended :)

That's one of my favorite series.  I think that W&G is good, love all the background we get on Roland.  My favorite is The Wastelands.

My favorite is also the Wastelands, with Dark Tower running a close second. The ending was more than I could have hoped for. Stunning! W & G always makes me sad though.....

I started reading the dark tower series, couldn't really get into it. I am into fantasy kind of books, but found the story a bit slow moving. Would like to give it a go again soon

Do you like that book Gav?
I thought it was boring when I had to read it.

I am about to read Nineteen Eight-Four. I liked Animal Farm so thought this would be good too.
