We typically refer to those as steak fries.

I like them all from fatvsteak fries down to shoestring if they’re cooked properly and have some salt on them. Not too much of course.

I’m so happy that my Walmart had six packs of Spaten Oktoberfest for sale. Last time I found some at a liquor store and took it up to pay the cashier admitted that if he knew there was one left he would have bought it for himself!

You're a lucky man and just at the right time!
Unfortunately, the Oktoberfest has lost its local charm. It's more like a tourist attraction now, a boozed-up carnival. But there are a couple of smaller festivals in the area as well. My favorite is the Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing. Pronounced something along the lines of “goy-boden-folks-fest”. You have much shorter lines for everything, and you can still find a table without a reservation.

In the “small world” department, my stepdad is in your neck of the woods right now and has been to a couple of Fests. He’s in Kempten for 10 days looking at manufacturing machines for his employer. They make parts for military trucks and tanks. He’s been having a good time when he’s not working. He said he’s been taken good care of by the German company’s employees. They’ve been to the local sights and restaurants. He did this 12 years ago in a different part of Germany too.

That's cool! He has probably seen more Fests/places than most locals. That's what I call a cross-cultural interaction.
Two of my RL friends are Americans (TX/NY) and love to rent a cliché BMW to drive the alpine roads and 'invade' the small mountain towns.
