Your Wishlist for the Next Red Dead!
« on: June 27, 2011, 03:23:42 PM »
Red Dead Redemption is a massive success: selling million of copies,  gaining high ratings from critics, and earning several "Game of the Year" awards.

There is no doubt Rockstar is preparing a sequel.

So as the title states commence with your ideas, wishes, and desires for the next Red Dead.

Let's start!

This is actually really hard. I thought Red Dead Redemption was as close to perfection as a video game can be and can't immediately think of many gameplay elements that need improvement. I guess I am most concerned about the plot. A lot of fans want a sequel with Jack Marston or a prequel with Landon Ricketts. I just hope Rockstar does not choose to go that route.

This is what I have so far:

* A story set in the 1870s revolving around a hunt for a Confederate general who plundered thousands during the Civil War and went rogue in the West
* The ability to swim
* A huge Yellowstone-like area. Perhaps they could call it Greenrock?
* I think Red Dead Retribution or Red Dead Reckoning would be a good title

The map should be a lot bigger, with bigger towns. And also get rid of the whole eagle eye npcs they got in single player were you kill a guy out in the wilderness and someone still sees you. Also they should make money actually useful, once all the guns and horse deeds are bought your money just starts to pile up because there is nothing else to buy. Matbe you have to buy train tickets, food and water. One thing I personally think would have made the game so much better is to have an optional mode like in fallout new vegas were you have to eat to survive, you see hulucinations if you don't drink water, your only able to carry a certain amount of weapons and once your horse dies you can't just whistle and another horse would appear. I just would have loved the idea of limping across the dessert hoping that you get back to a town before you're attacked by bandits so you can drink some water and buy a new horse.

Great ideas so far.  Here's a few off the top of my head...

Fishing (and not dying if you dip your toe in the lake !)
Being able to initiate a duel
The ability to name your horse

yea, like slap a fool with your glove to initiate a duel.

Also, the ability to make stuff out of skins. like better/different colored saddles? perhaps you need a bunch of animal materials for certain outfits.

I would like to see crocodiles.

the ability to sell your rare broken steeds for good prices and unlockables at ranches

more rare steeds

An enhanced game system. I always love it when a game looks better and performs better.
No horrible glitches
32 people in one Free Roam, and depending on the size of the map, maybe 32 in gang matches and definitely stronghold. In HomeFront 32 to a session does not cause lag.
No modern or fast shooting guns. Meaning get rid of the high power pistol and the Mauser.

Better character customization especially in multiplayer.  Also more banks to rob and a more official bank robbery system.  Especially in multiplayer.  Slightly more challenging bounty hunting system.  Also a multiplayer economy.  Other than that just a different location that takes place in either the 1870's or 1880's and make the towns bigger.  I'm also hoping that there are no locked doors.  I'm an outlaw and it's the old west and locked doors don't concern men.  Especially since it takes away from the completeness of the world.

-Hardcore mode with need for food and water
-Better customization especially for multiplayer
-Maybe horse customization (different saddles, various wounds, muscle builds)
-Bank robberies
-Train robberies
-Possible long term honor/fame system for multiplayer
-More elements for RP groups
-Some really fun missions for multi-co-op like train jacking or town assaults
Pandas are awesome cause they\'re black, white, and asian at the same time.

Thats called branding and I like that idea!  Make branding as a minigame or something.  Make it where you can brand cattle and your horses and if someone steals your cows or horses you have to go back and take down the rustlers!

-Slightly less wilderness, larger towns and settlements
-The ability to customize your own outfit much in the way you can in GTA IV
-A more spaghetti western sort of atmosphere and plot
-Set in the 1880s or before
-More RPG elements. The player should have to sustain themselves with water and food so they don't die from exposure.
-A story with a variety of different endings would be cool.

I'd really like to see co-op so that you can play through the main campaign with a friend.  The ability to host games like you can in GTA 4 would be nice.  What about having boundaries on PVP maps?  That could help in reducing the lag.  An RPG element would be great where you could build up your character's skills, buy weapons, etc.

Great suggestions so far everyone.  If they do make another RDR, when do you think it will realistically come out?

Larger towns, more missions that involves gangs.

Set in the middle of the 1800's.

The ability to sit down at chairs, and benches.

Cattle-herding as a job.

When you've broken a horse, you should be able to put in in a stable, and use it later.

The plot should involve the Civil War.

I agree with cattle herding.  I would probably do a bit of that from time to time if the option were available to me.  A mode where you had to go pretty far.  Like drive cattle from Armadillo to McFarlanes.

I would really like to see more detail going into the native americans, because in my opinion the only Native characters I see are Chief mangas, Hank Shiyani, and Shadow wolf, So basically more Native Characters and make them really fierce because if you know your history the Native Americans were sometimes (mostly) known as the most fierce warrior in the west other than cowboys. Also I think the Bow and Arrow would be a cool weapon to have.

-I agree with crocodiles.
-I agree with fishing.
-Put boats in MP so we don't need to do it with a stagecoach.
-Jobs in MP, you can use that money for Poker & Liar's Dice.
-The ability to skin animals in MP and sell the skins for money.
-Some type of money system where you can buy other weapons & outfits...
-Different ways to go in the game. Meaning choices between one thing and the other, and which ever thing you choose will lead to a series of different events, leading to numerous different endings.
