Retro console/ game thread
« on: July 11, 2011, 10:07:14 AM »
My brother was staying over with me at the weekend and he brought his Atari 2600 to my house which we played on an old 13" TV set for that retro feeling , games have come along way lol ,it was a bit surreal playing a 4 bit wild west game (outlaw) when my new Xbox was sitting downstairs not even played !:laugh4:

Pic of outlaw below, note the cactus between the two cowboys.

have a look at the pics.

I remember having an old Atari when I was a kid, anyone else want to share their retro game memories ?

I had that same model. Except some dog decided it was a good place for some urination. The console is ruined but the games are still fine.

Ah, the good old days... That really brings me back. I rarely played the Atari, seeing as I had a NES which at the time was pretty much like comparing a Gremlin to a Corvette. Ive found that Im playing the old games a lot more these days, Ive been thinking about dusting of the NES and playing some Kirby.

I've played Minecraft with a texture pack that makes everything look like it was made on an Atari, does that count?

I still have my old SNES. Still works like it's new, and I play it frequently. I do need some more games for it though.

Some of the games I have:

What the wierd thing is to me is this fact: Since I got my PS2 and PS3 I have had to buy god knows how many remotes because they keep tearing up/general abuse. I would say around 15-20. My NES, SNES, Genesis, and N64 have the SAME remotes and have been through years of play and abuse. Pisses me off the way things are so poorly manufactured these days. I mean, Ive had my NES remotes since 1990 and they still work fine.

Might look into getting a Gamecube as well.

Ah, I still have my Gamecube. It's a very underrated console with one of the best controllers ever made, in my opinion.

I agree completely. I, like you, went through many PS2 controllers. 360 controllers don't seem to be that bad though. I've dropped mine many times and it's still holding up well.

Sony makes them to break. Just as Microsft made the 360 break. If it breaks you have to get a new one. MONEY!

As for my "retro" consoles, I've still got my Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, Gamecube, PS1 and PS2 - all in working order. As is my Gameboy Color...not a console, but whatevs. Like an idiot, I traded in my working NES (I had Duckhunt, motherf*ckers, with the gun!) and all its games for something newer way back in the day and I still regret it. My first console ever was an Atari. Once upon a time, a very long time ago...

I still play the hell out of all my older consoles. Makes my current gens jealous. :P

Just sold my NES and a bunch of games last week.  It was hard but I'm moving and need cash and not as much shit.   I'm not too upset though because I had a friend mod my xbox with an emulator that has nearly every NES, Super NES, and Sega Genesis game ever made.  It's freakin' awesome.  So many games I remember and so many that I'd never even heard of.  My current fav. is Aero Biz where you run an airline.  Sounds exciting, eh?   Just don't pick Addis Abba Ethiopia as your home hub if you want to win the game.
I also got rid of my N64, but kept No Mercy the wrestling game because it has created wrestlers me and my old roomie made like twelve years ago.  Ah...good times.

Dreamcast
SNES
N64
I still have them and pop in a game from time to time.  The urge to play Golden Eye or Perfect Dark hit me like bricks quite often and even to this day I love them.

I sleep easier at night knowing I have an Amiga 1200 with some of my favorite games boxed up in the cupboard  :)
I should never have sold the one I had years ago  :(  Ebay sellers sure like to exploit people who want things. £20 for a floppy disk in a squashed box, no manual........  fuckoff!!  :D  lol

I've still got my Nintendo 64, Fat Model PS2, GameCube and a bunch of Gameboy/Advance Models left.

I used to have a Dreamcast but we gave that away, and we sold the old Genesis at a Flea Market a few years ago.

The only retro console I still own is an original Playstation, still in working order. I have it set up at work.

In my time though I have owned:

Atari 2600
Commmodore 64
Sega Master System
Sega Game Gear
Commodore Amiga
Sega Mega Drive
Super Nintendo

That's about it I think...

I think I had the same model. Brings back good memories. I also had a Sega Megadrive too. The only console I've got now that's remotely close to being "retro" is the PS2 I bought in 2002.
