Maybe he saw the later half...

Yeah, it was the last twenty minutes or so that I had saw. It was on TV, and I was trying not to look because I wanted to wait to see the entire episode instead, but after a while I just gave up and watched the last of it.

Watching the newest episode now, and still liking it.

Not as much zombie smashing though. This was a example of a episode that if repeated, will ruin the series.

Shouldn't last too long I'm sure. Either the next episode, or the one after, they'll probably leave the house and keep cracking more skulls on the road.

I think the house will be overran with zombies, and they will pick up that girl that the asian kid did in the store.

It's possible. Maybe that horde that they first saw on the highway could somehow wander off through the woods and reach the house.

EDIT: Special preview during hell on wheels, maybe we'll see something important.

If they follow the source material(something they should be doing a lot more of), the farm will nearly be overrun by zombies and Hershel will force Rick's group out(except for Glenn), and that leads in to the prison chapter. My guess is they'll drag out the farm chapter so that they're there for the duration of the season, and it'll end with them heading for the prison.

I'm fine with the lack of "zombie smashing" in the show, a trait I'm grateful they carried over from the comic. It's supposed to be about characterization and emotion, not mind-numbing action and gore. You can get plenty of that by playing Left 4 Dead or watching one of Romero's films.

That is true, but I don't want a well made soap opera that my grandmother watches that just so happens to be in a world of zombies.

I remember one of the writers or possibly a producer saying, during on of the Talking Dead episodes, that they're not following the source material as much because they want both new fans and fans of the comic to be surprised and on the edge of their seats.

Well, that's essentially what the Walking Dead is. It's about people and the hardships they'd face in a zombie apocalypse, rather than the zombies themselves. There are occasional instances of panic and action, but it usually takes a backseat to the survivors and the personal struggles they face in a world that's collapsed in on itself. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a soap opera, but it certainly has all the staples of a well made television drama. Fundamentally, it doesn't fit the standard definition of a horror television show, but is more of a drama in a post-apocalyptic setting. Hell, only one zombie appeared in tonight's episode. This story arc in the comic was equally character-oriented, though, and there will probably be many more instances of "zombie-smashing" in future seasons if the show follows along with the graphic novel's basic storyline.

Spoiler tags sure are great. I still couldn't help but read Llama's first, though. About an hour until the episode airs here.

Pretty impressed at how well this one was adapted. The main flow of the story is pretty much the same as the comic, some bits have been left out of course but other parts seem to have actually been extended. Like that awesome scene in the first episode where he takes cover from the zombies in that tank. That was brilliant! One of my favourite moments so far and it's completely original. In the comic there is no tank. He falls off his horse and he's about to get swarmed when Glenn calls out from the alley and leads him to safety. It's just Glenn too, by himself. That crazy redneck brother who gets left on the roof wasn't in the comic either. Just a couple of examples of things they've changed that have genuinely improved the story imo. I honestly don't know whether I prefer the comic or the TV series, they're both excellent but in different ways I guess.
