The article title is "Teacher Holds Secret Class"
http://schoolsofthought.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/29/california-teacher-holds-secret-class

Lack of government funding shut down this college program so the instructor decided to keep teaching anyway so the students wouldn't be left out in the cold.  I like the morale it teaches about entrepreneurship, and of course the villain of the story every step of the way is... well you'll see.  Its an interesting story.

We do need prop 30 to pass. Our budget was written on the assumption it will pass. If it fails, we're fuuuucked. Maybe. I really have no clue.

You must live in California?  California already has the highest sales tax in the nation and the state is in bankruptcy.  Prop 30 is about raising the sales tax even more right?  I'm loathe to suggest this because my socialist friends will take offense at the very suggestion... but it just might be time to for a revolutionary idea ... you know... maybe California should cut some government programs (seedy)

wo0t they legalized marijuana in Washington state and Colorado!  Now Canada can't use the status quo excuse where they just don't want to get too far ahead of the States on the issue.

Great decision on both states.  The Republican party should be supporting this decision 100% and put it in their party platform.  Its always been confusing to me why they haven't because for a party that's pro-individual freedom, uh, how'd you miss this one guys?  Democrats of course would oppose it because it creates a new, unregulated industry of free enterprise.  But hopefully these state laws put pressure on the federal government to remove the federal law next.  Me thinks it'll take quite a few more state law changes first before its enough pressure though.

Apparently console gaming is dying?  Apparently this next generation of consoles will be the last ever made.  Huh.  Well i disagree.

So much sensationalizing right there, hah. This generation definitely isn't the last but we are seeing a shift in gaming culture thanks to the ready availability of casual gaming on mobile devices. I don't think it's inherently bad either way, the hardcore niche will always remain but in the mean time video games become a more available media for the population and as a result there is more innovation in what defines a game. It's the beautiful result of culture and no amount of butthurttery is going to stop it.

Also, totes on Colorado and Washington legalizing it. Fun fact: Colorado had more votes for Marijuana legalization than votes for Obama. Suck it, democrats. I was planning on moving to Colorado as it was but now I'm just too excited for the opportunity to begin a business in an emerging industry that will be as lucrative as marijuana. Heh.
Things, and stuff

I read a different article last week stating that Minecraft overtook COD as the most played game on XBL in October.  The issue isn't per se whether gaming consoles will still exist but whether the big companies will adjust to market demand, or whether they'll lag behind.  I'm sure some will do each and the laggers will go out of business.

Oh well, just look at Midway Games.  Maybe if they're ass had done something besides making 19 Mortal Kombat games in 19 years they'd still be in business.  Bet they had hella good market research guiding their decisions /sarcasm

http://money.cnn.com/2012/11/16/news/companies/hostess-closing/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

In other news no more Twinkies.  Hostess is shutting down operations because a couple of union reps feel its unfair that a bankrupt company could pay them a slightly smaller salary in order to stay competitive.  In exchange they shall prove their point by putting all of their union members into unemployment.  Be a great day for America when the final union manufacturing plant is closed.  And some wonder why union membership in America is doing this:

Hostess employees say they've been taking concessions for years and they want them to take another one. They we're promised the last several times that this was to keep the company going in the face of bankruptcy, now they can't afford to take another pay/benefit cut and went on strike. Hostess said they will liquidate the company if they didn't stop striking by 4:00PM yesterday. Guess they are all out of jobs and my husband is gonna have to pick a different bread...

This is going to vastly fuck up my zombie apocalypse diet plan.

On another note its not relevant if union had taken past concessions because it still pays more than unemployment and i don't imagine job prospects are good for bakers now a days.   Unions have driven the cost of manufacturing  thru the roof while the company bore those costs for years and suffered gradual decline because of it.  So one can't say for a small fractional period of time that they'r paid less than they deserve when they're still being paid more than the market will bear.  If they weren't over paid hostess would be making that product at a profit not a loss.
