What American's Believe
« on: February 11, 2013, 06:24:11 PM »
Read a poll that I found interesting so thought I'd put the main results here.  It was done of 500 landline phone users, 500 cell phone users by Princeton Survey Research Associates.  These are the summary of the findings:

- Obama Approval rating                                52%
- Congress Approval rating                            17%
- Federal Spending                                         Too much: 74%
- Should the gov't  increase taxes                  Net 65% oppose, 33% support.
- Should the gov't reduce spending                Net 85% support
- Should Congress raise the debt ceiling?       64% should not raise
- Over the past 20 years what effect
has increased gov't spending had on your
quality of life?                                               17% it has improved quality of life, 40% reduced quality of life, 39% I dunno
- Which do you think is most important for
technological innovation?                               66% private sector, 33% government
- What should be the government's reaction
to the school shooting in Newtown?              16% stronger gun control.  21% nothing.  20% security at schools.
12% better mental health services.  Ban assault weapons 9%.  Ban all guns 1%
- What do you think most could have
prevented the Newtown shooting?               24% better mental health treatment.  19% stricter gun control. 18% better parenting.
17% armed guards at school.  10% less violent video games.
- Do you agree with President Obama's
  gun control plan?                                            7% agree.
- If the federal assault weapon ban had not
expired in 2004 would it have prevented
the Newtown shooting?                                  67% no, 27% yes.
- What political party do you consider self?      22% Republican.  36% Democrat.  32% Independent.
- To Independents what party do you lean
more towards?                                                30% Republican.  35% Democrat.

Interesting results. I see video games made an appearance. Oh those violent video games! Maybe mom and dad should teach their kids the difference between fantasy and reality, that usually helps some.

PS - the survey was a lot longer than that.  I didn't bother typing the questions that were pretty much tied answers like: should there be less government, more or the same?  (47% less, 46% more).

Ha, I'd just be happy I didn't have Congresses approval rating.  There were a bunch of other questions about approval I left out but they were all basically 50/50 splits on how people view the President but about 75% negative on Congress.

A lot of it is about gun laws.

American's believe in McDonalds, Beer, Guns, and Mel Gibson. Enough said.

There was a bunch of shit I left out that didn't really have any forum conversation value like what 1 word would you use to describe congress (insert list of 25 words of various weights), what should be obama's focus for 2nd term (insert list of 10 areas), what areas does the gov't spend too much money on (insert long list of random complaints), what do you think will happen if congress doesn't raise the national debt, yadda yadda.

On the independent leaning toward the two parties, did the other 35% do something very upsetting to the poll board?

16% stronger gun control.  21% nothing.  20% security at schools.
12% better mental health services.  Ban assault weapons 9%.  Ban all guns 1%

24% better mental health treatment.  19% stricter gun control. 18% better parenting.
17% armed guards at school.  10% less violent video games.

Interesting to observe how government inertia comes out a winner when asked what the government should have done yet most responders believe that better mental health care could have prevented the drama in Connecticut.

^ Actually when I first wrote the response I was only going to include the 16% gun control since that was the topic, then I came back and filled in the other major responses and their percentages, that's why they're out of order.

Also, a secondary update, I hear Bill Gates has funded a new Super PAC to lobby to have the 10% who responded "violent video games" deported.  (seedy)

Nothing wrong with being independent considering both parties are made of bullshit anyway, and contradict their ideals every so century.
