European Horse meat Scandal
« on: February 18, 2013, 10:29:18 PM »
I was just curious to hear what all the European members thought about this, and if it's as big of a deal to them personally as the media makes it out to be. I'm not just curious about the Europeans, but everyone's opinions about eating non-traditional "food" animals.

-Does the idea of eating horses bother you? (knowingly of course)
-Didn't some traditional Italian salami's contain horse? (some still do I believe)
-What non-traditional "food" animals would you eat if any?
-Do you believe there to be moral implications to eating certain animals?

I'm aware that some people will want to talk about this in relation to the economy, and that's to be expected.

-Would less regulation have helped in this situation as in ALL situations?

In dire times you have to eat what you can get your hands on. When Napoleon's men were returning from Russia in the frozen -30 degrees, they would cut pieces of meat out of the horses and the horses wouldn't feel it because they were frozen outside in. The horses would die a few hours later of course, but the principle is, you gotta do what you gotta do.

As for eating horse myself, sure, no different than a cow or a chicken.. Just a little chewier (seedy)

As long as it is good for me and it tastes good, I'll eat it. I would eat human meat in a dire survival situation, I would rather live than die because of morals.

Interesting... How do you eat it a lot? Is it commonly advertised and available?

in France a lot of horse is consumed. beck they sell in McDonald's!!

I'm not bothered about eating horse. it's become a big deal because the burgers were advertised as 100% beef and if they can lie about that, what else are they putting in them and not stating

since then it's erupted because of the drugs the horses were given were found in some of the burgers as well

the fact they found pork in halal meat supplied to prisoners is much worse in my opinion

oh and I'm from the UK :-D

Everything taste like chicken so why does it matter?

But in all seriousness, there is nothing with eating horse. Meat is meat. Food is food. If we can eat cows, we can eat horses.

Ther must be truth in advertising and lables of contents this should be prosacuted to the fullest.

As for eating horse? Isay knock the horns off it and wipe its ass and send it out I'd eat the ass end out of a dead skunk if I got hungry enough!
The strangest thing I'[ve eaten is fruitbat sweet black meat with bones like a fish.
