~~ Honor & Fame System ~~
« on: May 24, 2010, 05:59:41 AM »
I know about this thread but I felt if I was going to make it looks nice and provide this much info it deserves a new thread.
Quote
* WHAT I'M TRYING TO DO* I want to make a complete list of all the things that raise or lower your honor and by how much. Also all the things that raise your fame and by how much.

I'll need everyone's help though.

I'm also going to list some basic information on Honor and Fame.

So treat this thread basically as the place for all questions and discussions about the Honor and Fame system.

I'll start the list with what I know, it's incomplete so help me finish it.

Honor & Fame
Official Rockstar Honor and Fame Features Page

How people interact with you is largely affected by the choices that you make. These choices will either raise or lower your honor and earn you fame as your name spreads throughout the land as either a hero or a villian.

Honor
You will often be presented with a choice of action, and the decision you make affects your Honor, either positively or negatively. High honor awards you with discounts in stores, more pay from jobs, and witnesses turning a blind eye to your criminal behavior. For Example; when enough Fame is acquired to achieve "Gunslinger" status you no longer get in trouble for stealing horses. NPC's throughout the world will treat John differently based on his honor.

Honor Ranks and their respective Perks:
  • Desperado: No eyewitness reports crimes below murder, but lawmen still respound to all crimes if seen (In addition to Rustler and Road Agent Perks)
  • Road Agent: All the Shops in Thieves' Landing charge you 50% less to buy and pay you 50% more to sell (In addition to Rustler perks)
Special black horse responds to your whistles as long as you stay below Drifter Rank.
  • Rustler: The cost to bribe eyewitnesses is reduced 50%
  • Drifter: No Perks aka Neutral Honor.
  • Honest Joe: All jobs pay twice as much (including Bounty Hunting)
  • Peacemaker: Shops prices are reduced 50% when buying and increased 50% when selling in all areas except Thieves' Landing (In addition to Honest Joe perks) Worn Duster outfit is unlocked.
  • Hero: Lawmen and Eyewitnesses only report crimes after the first murder in cold blood (In addition to Honest Joe and Peacemaker perks
Low Honor Ranks <--- Neutral ---> High Honor Ranks
Desperado < Road Agent < Rustler |  Drifter  | Honest Joe > Peacemaker > Hero

Lowering your Honor
  • Killing a regular NPC - 50
  • Killing a law officer - 100
  • Bribing a law officer varies depending on the size of your bounty.i.e $10 bounty is -400 while a $500 bounty is -1000.
  • Bribing a eyewitness -0
  • Killing a nun -100

Raising your Honor
  • Disarm in a Duel +200
  • Shooting hat off in a Duel +?
  • Completing Gang Hideout +200
  • Ambient Challenges (Random Events by Helping Strangers) SEE BELOW FOR LIST
Fame
Fame is gained by killing people, doing jobs, completing challenges, finishing tasks, helping strangers, and winning duels and games. With Fame comes great rewards - people are more likely to ask you for help, the cost of bribes come down, and lawmen may begin to turn a blind eye to your transgressions.

Fame Ranks and their Perks:
• Nobody: No Perks. Starting out.
  • Greenhorn: People start asking you for help (more ambient challenges become available)
  • Buckaroo: Cost to bribe lawmen is reduced 25%
  • Mercenary: Increase time between law pursuits from 24 hours to 48 hours.
  • Gunslinger: You will never go wanted for stealing or hijacking a horse.
  • Legend: Bounty values for all the crimes you commit are halved.

Things that raise your Fame.
  • Duel Win +50
  • Disarm in a Duel +100
  • Gang Hideouts Completion +?
  • Story Missions +? (I know this fluctuates)
  • Stranger Missions +?
  • Survival, Hunting, and Sharpshooter Challenge Completion +?
  • Ambient Challenges (Random Events by Helping Strangers) SEE BELOW FOR LIST
Ambient Challenges
Depending on your Honor and Fame, people approach you in town or wilderness to ask for help. These are called Ambient Challenges. They usually give a little bit of Fame for successfully helping or completing the challenge. The following is a list of some of the types of ambient challenges and what they give you for Fame and/or Honor.

  • Saving People Chased by Wild Animals +50 Honor & +? Fame
  • Saving Person in Crime Holdup +50
  • Saving Women being Assaulted +50
  • Returning Horse Theft to Owner +50 Honor & +? Fame
  • Failing to Return Horse -50  Honor & +? Fame
  • Saving a Stagecoach being attacked by bandits +400 Honor
  • Criminal Chase +?
  • Escalera Fire Squad +?
  • Escort +?
  • Saving man/woman from Hanging +200 Honor +?
  • Roadside Ambushes +?
  • Lady Abduction +?
  • Transport dynamite +?
  • Shooting Contest +?
  • Win Plant Collecting Contest +5 Fame
  • Wagon Theft +?
^ If I'm missing any random encounters on the list then post what I'm missing.
Also I need help finding out what you get for + or  - Fame and/or Honor for each one.

Also remember...Bandana
The Bandana is available at the Tailor in Thieves' Landing and the General Store in Escalera. This piece of cloth hides your identity and while wearing it, your Honor and Fame will not change due to your actions. Your Wanted Level will also decrease more rapidly if you remove it after you commit a crime.

Ive been redirected here so here goes. Im currently 'Hero' rank in the Honour standings in the singleplayer of RDR. Now apparently because Im a 'Hero' quote;

"Lawmen and eyewitnesses only report crimes after the first murder in cold blood"

Now I've put this to the test and shot some guys who look like gang members in Armidillo's Saloon and when they shot back they were gunned down by the Police (Which was f'kin hilarious by the way) but when I hold someone up, I instantly get a wanted rating? I really dont understand the benefit for being a 'Hero' or am I completely missing something or is my game glitched?

So to sum up, what is the benefit in-game of being a 'Hero' (E.g. Honest Joe, Peacemaker, Hero)

Or is the benefit that I can kill gang members in front of other people and not get in trouble for it? Please help!

To me Hero means you should be able to commit one murder (in cold blood) meaning definite murder and not get a Wanted Level for it. Maybe the game is glitched by trying to hold someone up bypasses the Hero perk for some reason. Have you tried committing other crimes to see if you get a Wanted Level and are you sure your still above the Honor Level for Hero because you might have gone below it without noticing and no longer hold it's benefits. That's the only two things I can think of...

Hmmm interesting, I am definatly hero, it says it in my stats. Ill experiment. Iv'e done;

Shot innocent in foot: Wanted
Held innocent woman up: Wanted
Hogtied innocent woman: Wanted
Shot Gang member (Red hat) in Armidillo: Not Wanted

So, could I have killed a Gang member in Armidillo before I was a 'Hero' without being wanted? Or Is that the benefit of being a 'Hero'?

I definately love the honor system in this game.  Way better than Fallout 3's, and it is a great addition considering GTA IV gave you no reason not to kill innocents.  I like how you can spare people in a duel but they still give you a "win".  You can just shootout both of their knees and the gun.  Raises honor as well.

Technically, killing Gang Members is a good thing for the law enforcement unless it is a bounty mission, where, in that case, you have the choice to raise honor by bringing them in alive.

Here's a way I found to raise honor/fame

Go to a Saloon and play Poker (Be sure to be wearing the elegant suit)
Get caught cheating
When you  duel the accuser disarm him
+Fame and Honor
Repeat

Found this on another forum:

Quote
A friend of mine was telling me his sister has been playing a real mean outlaw, shooting up towns and killing everyone she meets, and she got a horse for it. A scarred up horse that's missing an eye.

Anyone else have this happen?

EDIT nm just found this in the OP:

Quote
Special black horse responds to your whistles as long as you stay below Drifter Rank.
