New PC Build
« on: April 13, 2017, 07:04:13 PM »
I've decided I'm going to finally get around to upgrading my PC. I haven't done it in 4-5 years because it really didn't need to. For most of that time I've barely used it apart from the occasional bit of web work or photoshop stuff for work, but now that I have it back in my bedroom (previous house's room wasn't big enough) I have found myself using it on a daily basis. Although it generally runs fine for everyday use I don't think it would cope with any recent games being released etc.

Here is what I am planning at this stage. The prices are the current AUD prices from my local parts supplier. Parts and prices will probably change in the meantime as I don't anticipate buying this soon. I'm thinking more putting money away from my pay each month and looking at it in 5-6 months time.

That's a pretty good build broski. You will be able to play all those newfangled VR porn games coming out.

I don't get the idea of VR porn. Like surely it's similar to watching it. Unless there is some peripheral accessories they are developing.

Actually that reminds me of an article I read about 10 years ago about how they were developing tools for cyber sex which would use a remotely controlled sex toy or electric pads (like a heart rate monitor) to send electric signals to stimulate the user.

Oh there are peripherals, some real ingenious stuff. Entire machines purpose built. Fascinating really.

Not that I have any personal experience with such things.

Pretty much most games with high-ultra settings. By the time I get it some games may get released where I won't be able to use ultra but that's hard to judge. So much comes down to how well a game is optimised.

For instance, with my current rig I have been able to run Skyrim and make it look amazing and run well. But the same rig can't run Ark:Survival Evolved even though it has lesser graphics and all, just because it is so poorly optimised.

At 60 FPS no less.

Yeah, survival games always seem poorly optimized. I don't understand why a game like 7 Days to Die that looks like garbage can run so poorly.

Funny, been watching some YouTuber playing simulators today, and noticed the stuttering every time the game loaded a part of the map... According to him because of the way the game loads, and it's not even a new game...

Yeah it sucks that some games have so many issues just because they aren't optimised. You can only imagine what kind of level of detail and "polish" they could give the game if they were able to optimise it.

I have been thinking quite a bit about getting a game pc. And now i'm thinking about it again...
I've always had average desktop pc's that couldn't run 75% of the stuff I wanted to play... And with the few I could run, I couldn't run the new dlc's...

I highly recommend building one yourself, it will save you some cash and is a simple process nowadays.

Awesome. I unfortunately don't have a rig, just my laptop. If Chalk would finally get around to paying my Admin salary maybe that would change.

I saw this keyboard being reviewed as part of an article today and almost fell in love.

https://www.gskill.com/en/product/ripjaws-km780-rgb---mechanical-gaming-keyboard--cherry-mx-rgb-red-

Might be a bit expensive but if I'm dropping AUD$1400 on a rig I may as well spend an extra 100 odd on a sweet keyboard. However I will probably change my mind between now and then, and its all subject to what I can actually get over here without too many hassles.

One thing I have noticed is that my current rig is not able to do some of the new functions in windows for the DVR and Broadcasting. Seems the new updates are turning the PCs into Xbox's and building Beam into them for easier steaming on either platform. Must say this sounds pretty sweet. If I can physically get the hardware in and do some Beam steaming from both my Xbox and my PC then its something I would probably look at doing.

I was never much a fan of LEDs in my peripherals, even the basic white ones on my computer are mildly distracting.

I like the idea in that I can customise each button, or even just have them all off if I need to. And there are quick key buttons to change the LEDs and macros. So I can have them all as Red when I'm playing a particular game and have the macros set as such. Then when I'm playing a different game, push a button and the LEDs change to blue/green and the macro buttons change with it.

Again when I'm close to getting all this stuff I will have another look as something better might come along.

That is going to be a kickass setup. How much did it set you back, if you don't mind me asking?

PC and monitor 1800 Euro's. The steering wheel and shifter came as a 300 Euro bundle.

Just played Euro Truck Simulator 2 for a couple of hours; all settings on high or ultra, plays really nice! :)
