Horse name?
« on: October 29, 2018, 12:58:06 PM »
What names have you fine folks bestowed upon your trusty steeds?

I resisted the temptation to call my pony Mayo.

After all Mayo neighs.

I went for "Corky" at the suggestion of my kids.

I tried to be clever and went with "Court." You know, Jester's Court. The Court Jester.... ? I know, not that clever.

I have a female Thoroughbred named Valkyrie.

And my male Kentucky Saddler is named Apollo.

I like to mix my mythologies.

Think I'm going to get a War Horse next and name him Ares.

Malarky Joe, for no particular reason. I had thought about Nibbles but that didn't seem appropriate for a war horse.

It's an old family joke about someowe know who had a dog by the name. I named my horse Askem.

"What's your horses name, pard?"

"Askem."

I love it.

I've got the reverse dappled black Thoroughbred I think came with the Ultimate Edition and I named her "Penny" after my dog (who's at the rainbow bridge). I think I still have that horse we all start out with...Tennessee Walker? Didn't name him. Hey, he could be the "horse with no name"! Penny is fast but I want to get that white Arabian everyone's been saying is super fast!

My first named horse was the $15 one I bought from the stable in Valentine. Autocorrect suggested Norse. I like Norse mythology, so I used that. I know ride a dappled gray I “found” that I hastily named Silver. The only horse names I’m tempted to use on a more permanent horse would be from lord of the rings. I like Theoden’s horse, Snowmane.

Speaking of horses, does anyone have any ideas on how to easily bring a tamed horse home?
I broke a horse but didn't want to leave mine behind.  So, I lassoed the new horse, but found no way to easily bring him along, I had to keep the lasso in hand the entire time.

Would I have been better off riding the new horse back to the stables and whistling for my regular horse the whole way?  Or would my horse follow us?  Or is there a way to tie the rope to my saddle?

I named mine Bojack (despite her being a lady horse) after the horse that back in the 90s starred in a very famous tv show.

I mean, I named mine Black Betty even though he's a male horse. I just wanted to be able to say "WOAAHHH Black Betty".

When I do change horses I will have to think of another clever name. Any suggestions?

I haven't tamed a horse yet but when stealing or grabbing one from a dead man, whistling will cause my horse to follow me. I named mine Ysera, BTW. I play Hearthstone and I like the names they give their female characters.

Another horse tip that has worked for me: when a distraction has left me too far from my horse, saving and reloading the game will "bring us within range."

What about: "John, John Marston". So if you call it that way (shout) John Marston always thinks you are calling him. "No I am just calling my horse"

Can someone explain to me what the type of the horse tells me? There's Race, War, Work, Elite. I now have a Dutch Warmblood (Work), a Thorougbred (Race) and an Arabian (Elite). The Dutch Warmblood is the easiest to handle and most responsive to controls.

I'm afraid my war horse Malarky Joe was killed by bandits, apparently right before they killed me, because, when I 'woke up', I had a new horse.

But I can't figure out how to give the new one a name. Can anyone advise? Thanks. :)

Take him to the stables, you will get an option to rename him, something fitting like “ A horse named glue”
