This online is garbage!!
« on: December 10, 2018, 04:36:19 PM »
The games are so buggy and laggy I dont know how any of you get kills!! I used to be pretty good at the original RDR...this thing is nothing like it!!! Guys just disappearing and reappearing, camp killing spawn points, (rubber-banding now) Had two guys on my team doing it today!! The maps suck, everyone is too stupid to work together on the big team matches, and for the most part are boring. Racing is broke as are the free roam missions. I get that piece of shit alert every 2 minutes telling me I've been disconnected (I even went wired in) because I thought that would help. The Battlefront star cards are trash, that was a horrifyingly bad idea, express ammo guys rule the rooms. One shot one kill with express. Hunting and Fishing are fun for about 30 seconds..then someone comes over and kills you. Saw two guys camping above butcher in Valentine gunning people down that came in with pelts and stealing them off their horse and selling them before they could get back! This isn't the game I fell in love with 8 years ago!!!! WTF happened???? Thoughts???

But they got so much right with the first one!!! How could you screw that up!?!?

They seem to have thrown out the RDR architecture and based the game on GTAV , I think once you accept that RDR is gone , as disappointing and frustrating as that acceptance is you can slowly appreciate RDR2 for what it is. They had it so right with RDR,  but remember we hadn’t seen anything like it before and we were all blown away. Now with RDR2 we have its predecessor to benchmark the quality of the latest iteration against, I would love to hear an explanation from R* to state why they have taken the direction that they have.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fanboy , I can see the flaws, RDR2 can’t live up to the impossible standards set by RDR, but it is worthy of my time as I have a great group that I play with, I’m hopeful that we will see improvements but I’m not naive to expect a massive overhaul.

I guess I'm just pouting more than anything, Craig. I even miss the damn announcer!! How you not bring him back? I just think that GTA should be GTA and RDR should have stayed RDR!! If I wanted to play GTA...then I could pop it in! Like I said...I'm just pouting! I feel like the loyal RDR guys and girls (like the people on this board) just got hosed on their squeal to our beloved game.

I am going to have to somewhat agree with you, Punt!  I have desperately tried to like the PvP mode...I've tried everything from different settings to different guns. I am trying my best to not compare it to the first RDR. I am actually one of the rare people who don't mind it being a carbon copy of GTAV online because I loved GTA.  But, what I do mind is they have not evened the playing field in this game at all...it is geared for those that have the time to grind (PvP) all day or those that are already gifted with much talent for PvP. And as a whole we have the ones who are coming from Fortnite and PUBG who think EVERYTHING is a battle royale in free roam....kill, kill, kill! In my opinion, that's not fun and makes things miserable for the casual gamer. I definitely get that and 100% agree with you on that issue.

I think you should (as well as myself) give it some time and give Rockstar a chance to change/add updates in the future.  Well, that's at least what I'm hoping for!  If they don't eventually add options to got to a private/friend/crew only session....this game is over in my eyes. That's just my opinion as unpopular as it may seem.

In the meantime....there IS a way to bypass the public free roam and get yourself into a private session and invite a few friends...there is a thread here and a YouTube video on it as well. You will be able to do it if you have not done your stranger missions yet.

Yeah, I hate it too.  I hate the PvP, I hate the free roam.  And on top of that, everything I read about it in addition to what I already know makes me hate it even more.  People really know how to ruin a game for others and R* may have blew it.

Unfortunately, until they come up with private sessions I'm out.  I have plenty still to in the story line so I'm going to keep concentrating on that and forego online for a while...maybe forever.
This sure beats milking cows!

I agree with you Mrs. Marston and hope you are right. I've lurked around these boards for years (since the beginning believe it or not) rarely ever post, but had to scream this out today!! Lol. Typically, betas are usually just basic stress tests for the servers. I'm hoping for an overhaul!!! My Dad always said "hope in one hand and shit in the other and see which fills up first". Before this game was released...I wasn't even worried about the online, I wondered what they would do story wise. Now, I'm pouting severely. For all they did great in the first RDR...this one (for me) is equally as bad! Ok, guess I'll end my rant there...OH LOOK!! Another Make it Count game!!! Hooraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! Now I can watch everybody hide for 5 minutes!!  (yell) (yell)

I dislike it as an RDR sequel.  Fell short of every expectation and tries too hard to be like gta and threw the actual RDR fans under the bus.

But if you think about it as a stand-alone game that we can all finally play together on again, it’ll suffice.

I'm the most casual of PVPers, but I am enjoying it so far.
As for free roam I am convinced that the griefers will move on to the next shiny new game soon.

The only saving grace is that I know players playing the game, thus I have a great time regardless of how much I dislike the PvP. As many of you have already said, it's too much like GTAV, and that their PvP games were a magnificent disaster. It even feels more like Max Payne 3 than RDR. There is just sooooo much wrong with the entire "online" experience.

Ferguson, I appreciate your optimism, but Craigyroo is spot on. The PvP needs a massive overhaul, and that's not going to happen. The best we can expect is for them to add private sessions, hope for bag games and pray they figure out spawns and this posse thing. I think those things can be addressed. But even if they are, this is a VASTLY inferior product to RDR1 PvP.

You know what, I'm so disappointed with this that I would be willing to shell out another $60 if R* simply fixed RDR1. Can't believe they screwed this up so badly.

Tbh, I think people are over exaggerating the importance of the grind in PvP. The best gun in the game is $70 and becomes available at a reasonably low level. I havent spent any time grinding, have only bought one weapon, haven’t bought any ability cards, and have been doing fairly well in PvP. I also bought the wrong ability card at the start, so I’m not able to paint x’s with deadeye, but that hasn’t been needed to do well so far. So I think people are definitely overstating the importance of grind in pvp, you don’t need to grind to do well in it.

In terms of free roam, I think it’s head and shoulders above RDR1. True, gang hideouts should spawn more, and they were great in RDR1, but beyond that there wasn’t anything in free roam. There was no hunting, fishing, drinking etc.. And people seem to keep talking about “griefing” as if it never happened in RDR1. From my experience so far, RDR1 was far far worse for grieving and killing in free roam. Hasn’t really happened to me to a major extent, and have had plenty of peaceful encounters with strangers.

The key issues with PVP are still the spawns, game modes and matchmaking. They’re both terrible, but i think if they fix both of those we have a pretty worthy successor to RDR1, especially considering the huge improvement on a single player. Sure, it doesn’t reach the dizzying heights set by the first one, but I still think it’s a pretty damn good game

I love the single player and that's it. The moment I saw what a microtransaction-hell the MP is going to be, I was out. And the thing that REALLY pisses me off about this game in general is the movement and shooting mechanics. How can a game in 2018 be that clunky? How can the shooting mechanics be that unpolished. If any of you have played a Naughty Dog game (Uncharted, The Last of Us), you will be massively disappointed coming into this. Kills (MP and SP) require zero skill and getting one feels incredibly unsatisfying.

The best gun in the game was supposed to be used as a small game / bird gun. How long before this gun gets nerfed? What happens when you start playing against more high level players using an ability card that makes it so you need 2 headshots to kill them and not just one because they were wearing a hat? People are grinding to get to the levels so they can use this. when it takes you 2 shots and them only 1 with the same gun you have a problem.

free roam in rdr had hunting and many more consistent gang hideouts. Selling furs that vanish from your horse because some one griefed you before you got to the butcher is a problem. Fishing can be fun for a little but becomes dull pretty fast if that isn't your thing. travelling across the map is extremely time consuming unless you want to pay to fast travel which takes grinding to get money. Did griefing happen in rdr 1? sure it did but it had next to no consequence. It definitely can in rdr2. there is very little to do in free roam besides fight other players, the random stranger mission and I don't remember when I saw the last gang hideout spawn, unless you want to sit and fish or hunt all day and watch the same skinning animation repeatedly.

The issues with pvp are spawns that put you a mile from the action or right beside another team or in the middle of multiple enemies, how long it takes to come out of respawn, people spawning right behind you, team colors too closely resembling each other, game modes, match making, poor latency, very buggy, time for matches to end in the bow and knife ones, How crappy the response of any other gun besides the varmint rifle is, shotguns that take 3 reloads at point blank range at times and instakill 5 feet away at others.

I have played the shit out of this game in both free roam and pvp since it released. I am level 37. I won't be going higher. Is this what rockstar calls a beta? sure it is. What happens when someone finds some way to get glitched gold bars or something like that in the game? Will rockstar let you stil keep your character or will it maybe get reset? how much more do you want to grind to get back to where you are now? This game is very obviously going to be heavily monetised just like gta V. I think I will jump ship now and be happy they made a great single player which was worth what I paid for the game. The online is trash and is definitely losing players and will continue to do so. If Rockstar resets characters, you can be sure it will lose even more. People are not exaggerating the crappy online mode. It is what it is. I would love for Rockstar to prove me wrong, but I am pretty sure they won't. They have shown with gta online exactly where they want their games to go and people who say the game is great or find little to no flaws in the online and dispute those that do only have themselves to blame when Rockstar doesn't change a damn thing. The game could have been an amazing multiplayer experience but they focused too heavily on making money and things that shouldn't matter in a multiplayer mode like weight and clothing and horse care. The world is beautiful, it is just empty. I will go back to playing multiplayer games that work and aren't a buggy mess, maybe replay the single player of red dead 2. I won't keep playing a garbage game just because I love the world it is in and the people I have met and played with while in it. I guarantee I am not the only one that thinks this way, I am just one of a few willing enough to be vocal about it. If everything gets fixed and the game becomes great, I can log back on then and start to have fun again. Until then, I will enjoy myself in good games and hopefully see some of the people I played with here on those as well. You go ahead and enjoy your varmint gun and great pvp experience. I will enjoy playing games where it doesn't feel like living in a marshmallow town where some things sponge up your shots and others  surprise you that you even made them, and every gun is viable.

Agreed!

Feels like old times in rdr1 running with yall. Some great people on these forums and in the game, we always have endlesd fun and raging together. The multiplayer is no way compared to rdr1 but it is growing on me. We will see after beta and a couple DLCs. Fingers crossed 🤔

I really don’t mind the online aspect of rdr2. Comparing it to rdr1 it’s better imo. In rdr1 there is no currency system online so you’re just playing to unlock characters, steeds, and titles. How is that more fun than buying things you’ve been grinding for? Yea people are higher ranked with better guns but that’s how a lot of games are battlefield and cod are two perfect examples. Everyone has been using the varmint rifle and I’ve been using the Lancaster and winning a lot or coming in top 3. Ability cards aren’t the end of the world, just keep playing until you can use and take advantage of them. The grievers aren’t that bad, plus it’s an old west game of course people want to kill each other. Camping on a rooftop waiting for people to go to the butcher is brilliant, if that isn’t outlaw status what is? Why get mad over that? Things like that make this game true to the west. Outlaws and criminals roam ready to take advantage of other p kill them back! layers to greed themselves. That’s like killing someone for their gold after they just panned for it! This is the Old West not The Sims.

Flaws and things that could be added(still in beta so I’m not too worried)

Not enough gamemodes
THEY NEED POKER
The spawns aren’t good at all
Private sessions & choosing what gamemode you want
The ability to skip like the old rdr
Voice dialogue would be nice but not too bad if not added
You can’t fish on a canoe or put more pelts in a wagon
Ability to prone
Free aim sessions
Less showing up on the mini map

Like the guys above said, no massive overhaul is gonna happen. But certain things in Gang Matches could be fixed and i'm sending them feedback every day: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/online/feedback?step=a614e986.

1. Hold Your Own and Grab The Bag

2. More town oriented deathmatches. Screw the damn woods.

3. Smaller maps and fixed spawn points(spawning behind you all the time and spawning far from action so you run alot until you find someone)

4. Preset weapons for each map. Cause with your own guns and ammo it's pretty much pay to win.

5. Option to choose which mode to play not being forced into a certain mode.

6. Mexican standoff at the start and The Announcer guy

7. Team colours are an epic fail. What was wrong with lawmen, Walton's gang, miners, Dutch's gang? At least you could see who's on your team.

8. Freaking Mexico and Tesoro Azul.

Also what the hell happened with "if you're pressing X, everybody can see you in the mini map". Or pressing X to respawn faster and everyone sees you?

I would love if they made a Classic playlist. I’m not a big fan of the mechanics of some of these new modes, with point based weapons and value of kills. I want two big teams and the simpleness of an objective like in the original RDR.

Bring back Grab the Bag and Hold your Own, put them in a playlist with Team Shootouts, fix spawn points, sprinkle some Mexican Standoff over it and you have the dream!
