On YouTube I have never seen so many guides in n how to play better in PVP.  RDR 1  it seemed to me players kept their playing styles more secret? 😀  And good for them, what works for one player doesn’t really work for another 🤣
Ability Cards??  They don't matter if you have NO ability!

Yeah getting kills doesn’t work for everyone.  Some people are better off just running around willynilly.

Nah as a forum we’re here to help.  No need for secrets.

Change your map to expanded when playing Showdown Series or a free roam event or simply fighting someone in free roam.  I constantly manually expanded my minimap on rdr1 pvp but there's too much other shit to do on rdr2 plus the "standard" minimap seems too small in rdr2.  So before I go to Showdown Series or a free roam event or when I'm simply fighting someone in free roam, I expand my minimap.  You can't expand it while in Showdown Series, must be done in free roam.

Thanks!  I’m always expanding mine in matches but it’s only temp.  Is this a setting you can change from free roam?  I’ll have to check this out.

Cool video fisherman. It's hard to think of universally applicable tips, so much depends on game mode.

Maybe it's common sense, but for load out you can dual wield sidearms by buying the off hand holster from the catalog.  I don't actually dual-wield it just allows me to carry a shotgun (sawn off), without sacrificing my repeater or rifle.

Also you can mount a scope on a repeater, so you have built in sniper as well in your normal loadout.

I'll add these shorts, random different things nothing special

Use dead eye with thrown weapons

Why carry sniper
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r47fxBGuru0" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r47fxBGuru0</a>

Of course dynamite, I probably use 2 sticks every match  (whip)

Maps that have a shrinking safe zone I would put a waypoint in the center of the map so I always knew what direction to head during shrinkage.

Most of RDR online is just them trying to make a GTA5 2.0.  Very little of what they did was respectful of what people enjoyed in RDR.

Yes, you hold down on d-pad I think.  You can change it in free roam but not gang matches, yet another thing in RDRO that doesn't make sense.

Agreed.  I really tried being positive about RDR online at first but I'm very disappointed with it.  It says a lot when the person with the most wins and kills in RDR1 pvp has spent more time fishing and hunting in RDR2. :'(  I pretty much feel like Inuman Remains feels about it.

It’s a shame, cause looking at the subreddit, very few people are actually complaining about the pvp, and whoever does gets very little. Seems like most of the outrage is focused on free roam. Can’t imagine they’ll fix it if it isn’t getting much attention

Found out you can catch sturgeon right off the shore next to the butcher in blackwater.  $7.25 apiece and you can sell them right there, no transportation risks (as long as no one is griefing you while you fish)

or just a short distance from blackwater you can put a dead dear slightly in the water and the fish will come up and try to eat him and they will die and you can just go and pick up all the little bastards.

Does anybody have some tips on the following:

1. Best way to play Name your Weapon. I run around like an idiot with the Tomahawk and get hammered.
2. How to "find/run into/locate" more players in game. I spend a vast majority of games just running around the map, but I have trouble finding players. As an example in a Name Your Weapon game this past weekend Kazzy went something like 18-9 (so 27 player interactions) and I went 4-7 (11 player interactions). I had the Tomohawk, but still I was always on the move. And some dude went 32-5. How the hell is he/she finding that many players in such a short game?
3. Does anybody have concrete knowledge of how the mini map works in PvP games? I find myself instinctively looking at it throughout and generally (short of the most wanted game) by the time I see anything on the map it's behind me and too late. Most times I get shot by somebody and they never appear on the mini map so I have no idea where it even came from.

And I may actually have a tip that may be useful for a more experienced player. I've found that in games with horses, if I am aiming anywhere near the horse my auto-aim goes directly to the horse instead of the player. So, it would seem, that if used correctly one could position or utilize a horse to draw fire whilst you kill the would be attacker.

(I too am amazed at the scores some folks can achieve in name your weapon), For what it's worth here's my take:

1.) Save the tomahawk for players that are either unaware of your approach, engaged in heir own duel, or pennies from heaven AFK. The double barrel should be your default, close the distance and don't forget hip fire can save your bacon in a tight spot.
2.) I have this issue as well, I tend to gravitate toward weapon pick up spawn areas, keep an eye for the "X" icon for recent kills, there should hopefully be an enemy near by, as Brah said in another thread set your mini map / radar to the expanded version as a default so you don't have to constantly expand it. If you are feeling particular sneaky you can fire your weapon, in the air or wherever to draw attention to yourself and bring the enemy to you.
3.) I have a feeling the mini map works of off a line of sight set up, and vicinity to gun shots  again I'm not entirely sure and I'm happy to be corrected, ideas peeps?
