Red Dead Revolver: Origins

As many would know, the title known as Red Dead revolver started as a project at capcom that featured character designs from non other than Akiman. But along the way, capcom had to drop this project due to some project instabilities. When the game was first shown, it had a bit of a different style to the gameplay...and seemed to be a bit wackier than usual. This is due to being capcom's version.

The powerhouse developer/publisher rockstar decided to buy and complete it, and in the process probably changed it a lot from it's genesis. So I wonder....what if capcom would have stayed the course and finished this fine piece of western product? Would it have been a masterpiece? Would it have been complete crap?

I don't know....but thankfully it still came to be. And one thing that rockstar did right on this above average title, was assemble the most definitive spaghetti western soundtrack ever. With famous songs such as Ballata per Un pistolero, and Jackie, this OST beat all others in terms of quality and atmosphere.

So yes, Red Dead redemption has my hype, for it will probably become the western game that all shall be defined by. Rockstar has my support......but still.....if capcom had decided to complete this fine product.....what do you think would have happened?

Capcom sure did have a different vision for the west huh.

I always found that the whole 'Rockstar nabbed a Capcom' game to be so bizarre in gaming culture, really.

While the Red Dead Revolver that Rockstar made is a classic, it would have been interesting to play this version. The music in the video is annoyingly catchy.

I have to agree with Scott - it is a bit weird to comprehend why R* did it. Maybe they saw some serious potential...the Capcom version looks trippy as balls. I remember playing and finishing Revolver not long after it came out, and I'm pretty sure I'm glad it wasn't the Capcom one. I'm nearly positive I saw a character fly at the end of that video.

It definately looks like a tail of some sort haha!

I bought RDRev for £2.50 online (with free P+P) so will play and can make a decision on which looks better next week :P

I think that would be awesome. I liked Red Dead Revolver a lot, not really for its gameplay but for its atmosphere. It had that classic, goofy, spaghetti-western feeling that RDR lacked completely. Don't get me wrong, Redemption is an incredible game and a lot better than Revolver, but Revolver is a lot better as far as atmosphere goes. Redemption had a sort of Revisionist Western theme, which wasn't all bad, but it made it feel a bit bland in places. If they make another Red Dead, I think they should take a break from such a moody atmosphere and go back to basics, make it a spaghetti western sort of game.

I'm so glad Rockstar completed Revolver.. For one reason that the capcom's version looked like total crap, and for the other reason that if capcom would've made it, we probably wouldn't get any Redemption. And if we did get a Redemption, we would at least not get such a bad ass John Marston and such a crappy son of his.

Well... just a guess but they are a very cinematic games company and they saw a semi-developed property to work on. Sure glad they did.

I love the japanese imagination and I'd like to try a build of the Capcom version but I'm very glad Rockstar stepped in, otherwise this would probably be the Gun 2 Forums.

Either way Revolver is and would have been sick. The HUD was crap and the camera was slightly closer but overall they're both cool.

No, Red didn't have a tail, that was a bullwhip hanging from his belt. Also yes that guy was flying (probably gliding) and was probably one of those special characters in multiplayer or a special chapter in single player (don't you tell me a character named flying eagle that could ACTUALLY fly wouldn't fit RDRevover so awesomely).

It also appeared much of the story remained the same, as did much of the multiplayer.

Lol, every time I watch the trailer it gets more and more awesome and similar to RDRevolver currently is.
