Well, I guess it works for some...but not for me.  I'm shooting and shooting and get no kills with it. I guess I'll just use it for hunting.

The Saloon (Off Topic) / Tintype collection
« Last post by Abstractik on Today at 06:59:25 PM »
I’ve been wanting to collect Old West tintypes for some time now. Obviously I’m obsessed with the old west. The clothing, the culture, the landscapes, the weapons and just how massive the earth was at the time with the population being so low at the time and the way of transportation. I’m looking to collect any tintypes. Most likely on eBay. There are multiple cases of people finding famous old west characters in tintypes on eBay sold for $10 or so. Now it does take a lot of background to deem the photo authentic (if you do believe it is a famous character). However I’m not going to collect for that I just like looking at authentic images from the era I love so much, and the mystery behind every tintype who is the person in the photo? Who took it? What year?.

I’m wondering do you have any collectibles from the old west? All I have is a beat up civil war navy pistol not worth anything in currency but worth a lot to me, dilating my imagination of the story behind it. If you want to count it I have a couple of arrowheads not knowing what time period but love collecting Native Americana and old west items.

The only saving grace is that I know players playing the game, thus I have a great time regardless of how much I dislike the PvP.

Agreed!

Feels like old times in rdr1 running with yall. Some great people on these forums and in the game, we always have endlesd fun and raging together. The multiplayer is no way compared to rdr1 but it is growing on me. We will see after beta and a couple DLCs. Fingers crossed 🤔

Tbh, I think people are over exaggerating the importance of the grind in PvP. The best gun in the game is $70 and becomes available at a reasonably low level. I havent spent any time grinding, have only bought one weapon, haven’t bought any ability cards, and have been doing fairly well in PvP. I also bought the wrong ability card at the start, so I’m not able to paint x’s with deadeye, but that hasn’t been needed to do well so far. So I think people are definitely overstating the importance of grind in pvp, you don’t need to grind to do well in it.

In terms of free roam, I think it’s head and shoulders above RDR1. True, gang hideouts should spawn more, and they were great in RDR1, but beyond that there wasn’t anything in free roam. There was no hunting, fishing, drinking etc.. And people seem to keep talking about “griefing” as if it never happened in RDR1. From my experience so far, RDR1 was far far worse for grieving and killing in free roam. Hasn’t really happened to me to a major extent, and have had plenty of peaceful encounters with strangers.

The key issues with PVP are still the spawns, game modes and matchmaking. They’re both terrible, but i think if they fix both of those we have a pretty worthy successor to RDR1, especially considering the huge improvement on a single player. Sure, it doesn’t reach the dizzying heights set by the first one, but I still think it’s a pretty damn good game

The best gun in the game was supposed to be used as a small game / bird gun. How long before this gun gets nerfed? What happens when you start playing against more high level players using an ability card that makes it so you need 2 headshots to kill them and not just one because they were wearing a hat? People are grinding to get to the levels so they can use this. when it takes you 2 shots and them only 1 with the same gun you have a problem.

free roam in rdr had hunting and many more consistent gang hideouts. Selling furs that vanish from your horse because some one griefed you before you got to the butcher is a problem. Fishing can be fun for a little but becomes dull pretty fast if that isn't your thing. travelling across the map is extremely time consuming unless you want to pay to fast travel which takes grinding to get money. Did griefing happen in rdr 1? sure it did but it had next to no consequence. It definitely can in rdr2. there is very little to do in free roam besides fight other players, the random stranger mission and I don't remember when I saw the last gang hideout spawn, unless you want to sit and fish or hunt all day and watch the same skinning animation repeatedly.

The issues with pvp are spawns that put you a mile from the action or right beside another team or in the middle of multiple enemies, how long it takes to come out of respawn, people spawning right behind you, team colors too closely resembling each other, game modes, match making, poor latency, very buggy, time for matches to end in the bow and knife ones, How crappy the response of any other gun besides the varmint rifle is, shotguns that take 3 reloads at point blank range at times and instakill 5 feet away at others.

I have played the shit out of this game in both free roam and pvp since it released. I am level 37. I won't be going higher. Is this what rockstar calls a beta? sure it is. What happens when someone finds some way to get glitched gold bars or something like that in the game? Will rockstar let you stil keep your character or will it maybe get reset? how much more do you want to grind to get back to where you are now? This game is very obviously going to be heavily monetised just like gta V. I think I will jump ship now and be happy they made a great single player which was worth what I paid for the game. The online is trash and is definitely losing players and will continue to do so. If Rockstar resets characters, you can be sure it will lose even more. People are not exaggerating the crappy online mode. It is what it is. I would love for Rockstar to prove me wrong, but I am pretty sure they won't. They have shown with gta online exactly where they want their games to go and people who say the game is great or find little to no flaws in the online and dispute those that do only have themselves to blame when Rockstar doesn't change a damn thing. The game could have been an amazing multiplayer experience but they focused too heavily on making money and things that shouldn't matter in a multiplayer mode like weight and clothing and horse care. The world is beautiful, it is just empty. I will go back to playing multiplayer games that work and aren't a buggy mess, maybe replay the single player of red dead 2. I won't keep playing a garbage game just because I love the world it is in and the people I have met and played with while in it. I guarantee I am not the only one that thinks this way, I am just one of a few willing enough to be vocal about it. If everything gets fixed and the game becomes great, I can log back on then and start to have fun again. Until then, I will enjoy myself in good games and hopefully see some of the people I played with here on those as well. You go ahead and enjoy your varmint gun and great pvp experience. I will enjoy playing games where it doesn't feel like living in a marshmallow town where some things sponge up your shots and others  surprise you that you even made them, and every gun is viable.

I love the single player and that's it. The moment I saw what a microtransaction-hell the MP is going to be, I was out. And the thing that REALLY pisses me off about this game in general is the movement and shooting mechanics. How can a game in 2018 be that clunky? How can the shooting mechanics be that unpolished. If any of you have played a Naughty Dog game (Uncharted, The Last of Us), you will be massively disappointed coming into this. Kills (MP and SP) require zero skill and getting one feels incredibly unsatisfying.

The only saving grace is that I know players playing the game, thus I have a great time regardless of how much I dislike the PvP. As many of you have already said, it's too much like GTAV, and that their PvP games were a magnificent disaster. It even feels more like Max Payne 3 than RDR. There is just sooooo much wrong with the entire "online" experience.

Ferguson, I appreciate your optimism, but Craigyroo is spot on. The PvP needs a massive overhaul, and that's not going to happen. The best we can expect is for them to add private sessions, hope for bag games and pray they figure out spawns and this posse thing. I think those things can be addressed. But even if they are, this is a VASTLY inferior product to RDR1 PvP.

You know what, I'm so disappointed with this that I would be willing to shell out another $60 if R* simply fixed RDR1. Can't believe they screwed this up so badly.

I'm the most casual of PVPers, but I am enjoying it so far.
As for free roam I am convinced that the griefers will move on to the next shiny new game soon.
Playing with friends is my main focus.
