Title: Any recommendations for good cheap games?
Post by: Registration on June 07, 2014, 08:35:04 AM
So I've got a €20 or €25 voucher for Xtra-Vision and I'm wondering if there's any good games worth getting with it. I've been planning on getting old enough games that aren't too expensive. So I've been thinking about getting Bioshock Infinite(never played a Bioshock before) or Gears of War Judgement Day(never had a Gears of War game before, only played it a few times in a cousins house). Anyone which of the two are better? Or anyone have any other games in the same sort of price range?
Thanks :)

So I would not recommend Bioshock Infinite, I didn't like it due to its linear nature and lack of things to do. I have never played GOW Judgement, but I heard it was pretty shitty compared to GOW3 which I have played and I can say GOW3 is a good game.

State of Decay is a fun game, I forget how much it is, maybe $20 so around 15 euros. Don't know if you're into shooters, but BF3 is a good game, as is BF4 but it still might be a little expensive. Left 4 Dead 2 is quite cheap and it's really fun. Any of the Fable games (Esp. Fable III) are cheap and entertaining. Borderlands 1 and 2 are great games and quite cheap now. Skate 2 and 3 are fun and cheap. Far Cry 3 is probably cheap now too, very good game. The first Dead Island is cheap now, also a good game.

Hope that helps. Shoot me an invite if you get a game that I have.

I think I'll be able to get Far Cry 3 of a friend, I probably will get it. BF4 is still €50 here and I didn't really like BF3. What about Mass Effect 3 or Halo 4? I heard they're pretty good. I've also been thinking about getting Tomb Raider but I think I'll wait till next gen. I've also been thinking about Max Payne 3 and the Oblivion Shivering Ilses. I'm not really sure what I'll get to be honest.

halo 4 was good but short... cant go wrong with the borderlands series, good fun. never played mass effect 3 but ive heard good things about it. all the games convex suggested are good. ive been playing the free with gold dark souls and been really enjoying that. id say defiance but theyve turned that once really fun game into that shitty girl you took to prom...

Yeah you should download Dark Souls for free on the dashboard, but make sure you are prepared to use a guide online, that game is so confusing sometimes.

Does it take up much space on the hard drive? I've only got 900mb left, I'll have to clear some space. Does Halo have good multiplayer? I think I might borrow Gears of War 3 from a cousin cause I like the multiplayer in that.

Halo 4 has a good multiplayer but it gets boring after awhile. How much is Halo 4 now?

Halo Reach has far superior multuplayer if you haven't played that.

Gears of war judgement is a terrible game and an embarrassment to the Gears of War series. After having the game for 3 months after it was first released the multiplayer was as empty as red dead is now.

I have Tomb Raider and Max Payne 3....they are both pretty good games. Tomb Raider is more challenging than MP3...to me anyway. TR is similar to Assassin's Creed with all the running, jumping and climbing you have to do to get to stuff.  I am working on the Walking Dead series now, I think it's like $5 per episode. The graphics and mechanics of the game are crap but it's different in that you have to make decisions quickly. That's the only thing that makes it interesting...if you like that sort of thing.

The Walking Dead is great because of the story and choices that impact it rather than the game play. I highly recommend it. If you have a rental store near you, you can actually rent a physical copy of it.

I like the Tomb Raider games so when the PSN store put "Tomb Raider the definitive edition" on sale for $4.49 ... I just couldn't say no ... however it was a 3 day sale and it ended today here in the US ...

I am pretty sure I still have Euro Truck sim 2 on my steam account. I had no idea it had multiplayer. I mean, I haven't played it in years but I just might get back into it now. Albeit with a controller as I don't think my wheel will work. Plus its shite. My brother gave it to me when he was throwing away some "junk" he had acquired.

VMB i was watching one of Squirrel's videos about multi player and he says your ETS2 game has to be purchased from Steam's website in order to work with the multiplayer game ... has to do with verifying you have bought your copy of the game ... the multiplayer servers do not belong to Steam or the makers of ETS2 ... you also must connect your game to the World of Trucking online site in the opening game screen ...

I bought the disc version... I did register it to my Steam account, not sure if that counts...

If you used the CD key to get a copy on Steam it should.

So I started playing Euro Truck Sim 2 again. Took me ages to get my controller to work because it seems Windows 10 sometimes has issues with the driver for this particular controller (Logitech F710). Eventually I was able to tell it to use the drivers for the Xbox 360 controller for Windows and that seems to work.
On my first real drive I totally kept forgetting about speed and got like 3 speeding tickets. Then I found the cruise control button. Still kinda annoying that they reduce the speed from 60 to 50, chuck in a quick speed camera, and then the limit goes back up to 60. Its pure entrapment I tell ya!

Big Xbox sale. I grabbed Mirror's Edge Catalyst for $6. RDR is only $11. Nice if you lost your disc or have a scratched one.

I played the demo for the original and liked it. When the new one came out I thought it looked good, but I had other games to play, but for one tenth the original price I can't resist. My problem is still having too many great games and not enough time to play them. Well, to be honest, overwatch is so good I just can't put it down. I still play it a ton on PS4 and Xbox.

I watched my housemate play it when it first came out. I can understand the appeal for those that are into it but its not really my kind of game.

I have started to look at Motorsport Manager. Seems more my game. It's early days though so I'll let you know what I think once I've played more than 1 race and a bunch of behind the scenes stuff.

Anybody who has a PS Plus subscription should play Life is Strange which is free to download this month.

I played it a short while back and thought it was very good, well worth a try being as it'll cost you nothing extra to give it a go. It's also a very easy platinum for anybody who cares about trophies.

There is a free game on Xbox One called "Crossout".  You can design your own Mad Max style vehicle complete with guns from the ground up. You can play co-op and PvP.  It's an MMO so of course you have to pay for all the really good stuff. But, you still can get lots of stuff as you level up. And there's something called a marketplace where you can trade equipment...haven't really checked it out fully.  Not bad for a free game. Only thing I don't like is that you control the vehicle with your left thumb stick....and mine's broken so that's a challenge in itself.

Also downloaded the free trial for Gears of War 4...you get 9 hours of gameplay with the full game. Never played any other Gears game....I'm liking it so far.

love to go fishing but don't have the time or where with all to gather your gear and head out to the lake or stream for a peaceful afternoon or night of fishing ... do i have a game for you ... here is some info quoted from an article on Polygon ... https://www.polygon.com/2017/8/17/16164272/fishing-planet-trailer-ps4-release-date (https://www.polygon.com/2017/8/17/16164272/fishing-planet-trailer-ps4-release-date)

quote:
"Fishing Planet debuted in August 2015 on Steam Early Access, where it is available as a free-to-play title for Linux/SteamOS, Mac and Windows PC. This trailer confirms a release date of Aug. 29 on PlayStation 4; that version will also be free-to-play. Fishing Planet will support the PS4 Pro (note that the trailer is available in 4K resolution). Fishing Planet bills its game as a first-person fishing simulator, with a dozen fishing playgrounds based on real-life locations along with more than 70 species of fish and a “complex fish AI system.” Fishing Planet also offers online multiplayer fishing, including tournaments and competitive gaming."

they have added night fishing in the game on PC but not on PS4 just yet ... sorry i earlier thought it was available on Xbox one but i don't think so now ...

if your a PS4 or PS4pro owner and you have the PS+ subscription ... this months free games are Bloodborne, Ratchet & Clank, Mighty No. 9, Claire: extended cut and Bombing Busters ...
and on the PS3 you can get Mighty No. 9 and Legend Of Kay ...
for the PS Vita its Claire: extended cut and Bombing Busters ...
I usually add them to the console library and download them to play when I have a break from my regular game play ...

Oh, I have plenty of unfinished games to keep me busy until RDR2!  Still need to finish Origins, FC5 and believe it or not - Wildlands.  Thinking about downloading MGS: Phantom Pain (free on Xbox until the 16th)...but then again, that'll just be another unfinished game. And of course, I still play GTA5 online...just waiting for the next DLC! Nothing interests me for June's free games on Xbox.

I also got Just Cause 3 for like $9 and Sniper Elite 4 was only $19.80....but passed on that for now as I'm sure it'll go on sale again.
