Red Dead Online / Major update
« on: May 14, 2019, 12:39:52 PM »

There’s a lot of meat here. Hostility system, many new free roam events, poker, ponchos, become a trader, bounty hunter or collector. Headshots are more difficult, gold bar each level, the LeMat, new coop missions, posse fishing and hunting competitions, increased payouts. Much to digest.

RDO Online begins November 27... if you bought the ultimate edition. Next day if you played on day one. And so forth.

Red Dead Redemption 2 / Red Dead Recording Gameplay
« on: November 16, 2018, 04:59:05 PM »
The know many people have just purchased a new console for RDR2 (trying to make this about RDR2 so I can put it in this active forum;)) and may not know about recording their gameplay. Both consoles make it easy to do.

Here is a newish list of PS4 Pro enhanced games.

I’d like a thread that focuses on your clothes, horse equipment and gun finery. Right now it’s just Arthur,  but eventually we can show off our MP characters.

This outfit felt like an American’s idea of an English gentleman out for a day of hunting hedgehogs or stoats or... a good chicken tikka Marsala shop.

Gaming / Battlefield 1
« on: October 30, 2018, 03:51:25 PM »
Battlefield 1 will be one of the Xbox games with gold in November. Right now and only until October 31st the Premium pass is free. Be sure to grab that now if you’re interested.

To start, I think the game looks and sounds great, but...

The lack of HDR and Dolby Atmos are both let downs for me. I thought something was off with my TV when I didn’t  see the dazzling white snow I’ve seen in other games. It still looks good, but why they didn’t implement this is a mystery to me. Games like Gran Turismo Sport, Horizon Zero Dawn, Forza Horizon 3 and 4, even an older game like Infamous make such good use of the brightness and wide color gamut afforded by HDR. Maybe a patch is a possibility. I’ve seen other games patch it in later. It’s a bigger deal to me than 4K vs. 1080p.

The omission of Atmos support is less egregious to me. The surround sound is quite good, but having support for overhead sounds would have been perfect for this game. Rather than a plate of sound around you you get a dome of sound.

Again, I’m not shitting on the game at all; it’s amazing. I was just hoping for the whole enchilada. I wanted a showcase for all the bells and whistles. I wanted the game that uses all the tools. Maybe it will be soon.

General discussion / RDR in 4K
« on: April 10, 2018, 07:39:41 PM »
I haven’t had a chance to update my game yet, but RDR has been enhanced for the Xbox one X and now rounds in 4K. Can’t wait to check this out.

From Ars Technica:

“The arguable biggest news of the day is that Red Dead Redemption's Xbox 360 version has now been patched to take advantage of Xbox One X hardware. That means, like other Xbox 360 games given the X treatment, RDR will now render at nine times its original 720p resolution. Should you have a 4K TV, an Xbox One X, and a copy of RDR, you'll be able to play the game at 3840x2160 pixel resolution once its patch launches sometime today.”

Gaming / Dolby Atmos
« on: December 22, 2017, 08:23:58 AM »
If you have a newer Xbox, like an X or S, you can use Dolby Atmos either through a home theater receiver or much more economically through any headphones. I added a couple of up-firing speakers to my 5.1 and the sound is fantastic. Most new movies are mixed in Atmos and it does what it says on the tin. If you download the Atmos app you can buy an extension to allow it to work for headphones. $15 or so. It’s one of those things that you don’t quite get until you experience it yourself. Worth a look if you have the right box.

I'm in. My Xbox one has served me well but I'm ready to upgrade. I'm hoping that it comes out right around rdr 2's release. If you're interested in the technical aspects, this digital foundry video does a good job of laying things out.

Red Dead Redemption 2 / LFG extreme hardcore test. Help a pug out.
« on: March 02, 2017, 02:06:30 PM »
I'm hoping to revive extreme hardcore for the new game and I'm hoping that the new Xbox tools will make things easier. I'll look at arena to see if the rules can be globally applied. But even without that I think the "looking for group" will work a treat. I can set the time and description and it should show up to club members. I'm hoping that the time will adjust for everyone's locality, but I'm not positive yet. Can anyone in the forum club check it out and let me know here if it pops up for them or if they had to look in the club to see it. And if you're not in the us east time zone does it show your time rather than 4:30 pm? I think we can run it once a month at least.
PS, if you haven't joined the club, now's the perfect time.

PPS: It let me choose RDR2, but wouldn't post.

Gaming / PS4 4.5 update beta

External HDD Support
Custom Wallpapers
Quick Menu Refresh
Simplified Notification List
Post on PlayStation Network Activity Feeds
3D Blu-rays on PlayStation VR
And more undetailed features.
Boost mode for PS4 Pro owners.
"Experience improved gameplay, including higher framerates, for some games that were released before the introduction of the PS4 Pro"
Access upload/download gave save data from homescreen options menu.

Number 1 is definitely the big one I think. The USB 3.0 interface means you'll get the same speed from the external. If you really want an upgrade, make it an SSD. If cutting load times in half sounds like a worthy improvement that is.

I just can't get enough of this game and I thought I'd share a few clips and maybe get a small discussion going if we have any Heroes besides Craigyroo and myself here. I've been without PS4 for 3 weeks now, but the Pro arrives in 1 week so I'll be back in the fray there too.

3 snippets here. I'm especially happy with the Zarya clip. I've been playing her quite a bit and she can absolutely dominate if you play her correctly.
