“New features and more coming to the Red Dead Online Beta on Feb 26th with new improvements and enhancements to the game’s open world, including a new Law and Bounty system, weapons balancing, changes to player blips on the mini-map and more. “

It specifically mentions the varmint.

So the one gun that’s accurate, they’re making less accurate.  “More in line with other weapons”...

Other than that it’s all free roam stuff, no pvp fixes.

Aka pvp will die soon.

Red Dead Online / New update...
« on: January 10, 2019, 11:39:49 AM »
Be ready to be disappointed...

Gun Rush mode and more coming “this year”

We were all talking about how inactive the sessions are already getting and this update needed to be big...I haven’t played gun rush but without any other adjustments I’m a bit worried.

The mode doesn’t sound like anything spectacular, like more spectating.

One glimmer of hope is it said new showdown modes are coming soon.  Which might mean they will finally separate them?  If they add them more into the same mix it’s going to be annoying.

32 man sessions with 8 teams and 10 active players in a session is broken already.  You can’t hit the whole rotation anymore without people leaving. Most of their points in this link seem to once again be focused on free roam and not pvp.

Another interesting note:

“Proximity-Based Player Blips: Player location blips will soon appear only over short distances, reducing the range at which you are visible to others, decreasing the likelihood of being targeted by another player across large areas. Down the line, we’re also looking to introduce the ability to identify players who grief and kill indiscriminately with a progressively darkening blip that becomes more visible and at a longer range, so everyone in a session can identify potentially dangerous opponents at a glance and from a safe distance”

Not sure if this is in pvp or only free roam, but might be a helpful addition to the radar.  Or at least a sign that they are working on the radar.

Overall it’s not the big fix I think we needed to keep pvp going strong.  I’m still sticking it out for now but I’m not sure where it goes from here.  “More coming this year” is a heart breaking sentence.

Red Dead Online / Tired of hearing “the varmint rifle is OP” (rant)
« on: December 22, 2018, 12:10:55 PM »
For starters, people have historically said this when they get killed by something in online gaming.  Sometimes it’s true, usually every game has people bitching about a weapon.

But there’s logic behind my opinion - the varmint rifle is the only decent rifle, the others just suck.  This is RDR, where the headshot has traditionally reigned supreme over all.  This is how it was in RDR and this is the one mechanic that needed to return.  If people are coming from other games and don’t understand this one key fact then they are already misled.

Any other rifle has this accuracy feature that drastically effects how accurate you are.  You can be dead target but your bullet can still miss anywhere within that outer circle.  Even if you let it shrink it can still be bigger than the head and thus miss whenever it feels like it.  There’s no consistency to this.  The varmint rifle is simply true accuracy.  It goes where you fire it.  IMO anyone mad at the varmint rifle for being OP simply doesn’t understand the RDR headshot mechanic.  It’s supposed to be a one shot kill and you should be in control of your own accuracy.  Which is what the varmint rifle represents.

It still has range limitations, and personally I think the concept of over powered, if taken literally, isn’t even close to describing the varmint as you can literally pump 10 body shots in someone and they can survive.  It’s only advantage boils down to accuracy.

Why anyone would want to mess with the one accurate rifle and have them just like the rest is beyond me.  There are plenty of issues with RDR2 online, this shouldn’t even be thought of as one of them.  If anything the rest of the guns should be slightly more accurate.  The headshot gameplay is the bread and butter of RDR.  That and deadeye, which they’ve already bastardized.  Let’s not turn this game fully into GTA.

Red Dead Online / Are you still playing RDR Online?
« on: December 20, 2018, 12:14:56 PM »
I feel like I’m reading a lot of people across the internet talking about how broken they feel Online is and have already given up on it, despite it only being a beta.  Makes me wander how active Online is, and how many of us here are playing.  Are you still hopeful?

I wish they had a meter like COD that shows how many people are currently playing.  I’ve seen some repeat faces in sessions already, but I think that’s mostly due to how RDRs matchmaking works.  It seems to pair you with people you played with already.

I’d still be interested to know the number of current players versus what it was last week.  Rockstar is always so secretive about their sales and activity and even their plans on what they intend to fix that it’s almost aggravating.

Red Dead Online / Rockstar announcement about stat resets

No current plans to reset anything.

”Red Dead Online Beta
December 4th, 2018 Update:

We appreciate all the continued feedback we are receiving on the Red Dead Online Beta. For players concerned about the potential for progress and stat resets, we currently do not have any plans to reset them as part of the Beta’s rollout. We are currently still working on game stability and economy balancing for an update that we hope to release later this week. Please stay tuned for more news to come.”

To me it sounds like they plan to leave everything as is for the future.  The only known thing they claim to be working on is the economy issues.  To me, that raises some concerns.  It tells me this is not just a temp beta framework that will change entirely, but this is their final product and just intend to fix whatever needs fixing from here.  Which makes it sound like match types will be staying the same, all mashed up.

Am I reading too far into it?  Do you think they intend to fix more than they claim?

So far the only non bug issues they acknowledge is the economy  💩

Red Dead Online / Rockstar releases announcement regarding feedback
« on: November 30, 2018, 06:47:39 PM »

It bothers me that all they have in response to feedback is just a list of basic concepts that we all know.  Doesn’t seem to be directed at much, and I struggle to think anyone was having issues figuring these things out, but that maybe rockstar misinterpreted the feedback as somehow needing this lol

I think it’s important we all make our voices heard on anything we feel missed the mark.  It’s not often that rockstar listens, take advantage.

Red Dead Online / My first impressions of online
« on: November 28, 2018, 11:54:21 AM »
Intro is tedious and uneccesary, should be optional.

Controls are clunky, running is awkward, and moving with a rifle in hand is even more so. One skill that still remains similar is deadeye, although the shots are way slower.  Switching shoulders is back which is helpful but more awkward as you have to do it while aiming.  The map boundaries in pvp really come at the worst time.  I’m getting the feel for headshots...they aren’t bad but there’s definitely a difference.

More to come

Not sure how I feel about the mechanics yet

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

Basically you have to find a ledge above something you want to access.  You start the rest animation by holding Y or triangle, and right as it finishes you push forward and use the climb button to vault over the ledge.  You must keep holding the rest button until you’re done. When you get down the game tries to send you back to where you started the rest and pushes you through the wall.

I’m reminded of all of our hijinks in the movie theater and other such buildings back in RDR.  8)
