Forum Games / The "Guess the Community Member!"-Game
« on: May 11, 2011, 03:36:02 AM »
Title says it all, doesn't it? The person who guessed the name of the right RD.net-affiliate, after it's been verified by the previous winner, gets to pick a new community member. You can give as many hints as you want, but do remember: you want to make it at least a tad difficult! When guessing, you can only name one member at a time and you can't double-post. As both an example and a kick-start for this thread, I present you:

I struggle...
To make decent sentences...
But my ghetto...
Skills make up fo'dat...

Site Suggestions & Bug Reports / Recent influx of eL33tist posses
« on: March 03, 2011, 06:02:57 AM »
It seems our dear, precious fan site has been protected from dangers such as these for quite a long time but now shit's finally hit the fan. Nowadays if you take a look at the Public Chat multiplayer forum, there's nothing but bragging threads and virtual brawls as far as the eye reaches.

(Examples: xxSODxx vs xxRDSxx, XxSODxX vs Akita, Armegeddon and darkangel87 and RDS vs TWO to name but a few. I apologize if I didn't get the amount of x's right, there's just too many for a sane man to count.)

I know everyone should have a right to post here and to advertise their beloved posses, but what these guys are doing on reddead.net is nothing but arguing, bragging, provoking other posses and creating a surreal amount of worthless topics. They literally add nothing to this community and do not take part in any other form of communication than endless bickering in the multiplayer section. They are wasting planet earth's natural reserve of x's and they cause inconspicuous yet significant damage to the grammar abiding member's intelligence. Generally the content of their posts varies from accusations of modding(link) to shameless self-promotion(link). Just take a look at the multiplayer section, it's a damn shame. It has become an asylum for narcissists and misanthropes.

What do I suggest? Lock all these threads, ban all those nits and at the next sign of a thread being posted about xRDSx, xTWOx, whatever posse with x's, lock and delete those threads too. These guys hardly add up to 0.5% of the forum, yet they achieve at spoiling the sensible discussion for the other 95.5%.

Forum Games / The Ultimate Famous/Notorious Movie Characters Battle Game
« on: February 22, 2011, 10:48:02 AM »
That's right ladies and gentlemen, more or less the same concept as brought to you by IndianOutlaw with his "RedDead: The Ultimate Battle Game" and its spin-offs. Rules are simple as ever:
1. No double-posting.
2. There must be a 2 hour time-lapse between your posts at the very least.
3. You can either deduct 2 points or add 2 points.
4. You must copy the entire list and erase your predecessor's deduction or addition.
5. In case you happen to be the actor who portrayed this character, don't vote for yourself. Voting for yourself or rather your own portrayal, is lame(I'm sorry mr. Pacino, that's the way it is).

Let the games begin!

Billy(Easy Rider) - 20
Marty McFly(Back to the Future) - 20
Tuco(The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) - 20
Vito Corleone(The Godfather) - 20
Jules Winnfield(Pulp Fiction) - 20
Neo(The Matrix) - 20
Jedediah Leland(Citizen Kane) - 20
Darth Vader(Star Wars Trilogy) - 20
Freddy Krueger(A Nightmare on Elm Street) - 20
Mr. Blonde(Reservoir Dogs) - 20
Inspector Jacques Clouseau(The Pink Panther) - 20
Jack Torrance(The Shining) - 20
R.P. McMurphy(One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest) - 20
Frank Drebin(The Naked Gun) - 20
Atticus Finch(To Kill a Mocking Bird) - 20
The Terminator(The Terminator) - 20
James Bond(From Russia with Love) - 20
Travis Bickle(Taxi Driver) - 20
Tony Montana(Scarface) - 20
Tyler Durden(Fight Club) - 20
Monco(For a Few Dollars More) - 20
Jack Sparrow(Pirates of the Caribean) - 20
The Dude(The Big Lebowski) - 20

Disclaimer: I realize this is a very biased selection, seeing as most are contemporary movies and some of the good, old classics have not been picked for this list. However I feel that many of them wouldn't last long as this site's traffic is mainly a youthful one. Nothing wrong with that of course, but it wouldn't give the classics the respect they deserve. I tried to cater to all audiences. These are in no way my favourites, yet it does contain some of them.
+ We're aiming at Sean Connery for James Bond.
+ For inspector Clouseau we're aiming at Petter Sellers.

Gaming / Shogun: Total War 2
« on: December 12, 2010, 03:12:08 PM »

Platform: PC
Due: March 2011

Coming next year is the long awaited sequel to Shogun Total War, first issue in the famous and well received Total War series. The games are known for their combination of massive real-time battles featuring thousands of units at the same time and their turn-based board game like world maps. They're more addictive than crack and they keep you clustered to your screen like superglue. I don't know about you but this will definitely be on my must buy list for 2011. Played all of them(Shogun: Total War, Rome: Total War, Medieval: Total War 1 & 2, Empire: Total War and Napoleon: Total War) and must admit that they're rivalling with the GTA series for the top 1 spot of my favourite game franchises. Speak up, Total War junkies!

Show content for Dev Diary: Clan Feature #1(Chosokabe):

Hi all,
Right now, you’re probably wondering what clan you’ll pick in Total War: Shogun 2. In this, the first of Shogun 2′s clan features, we focus on the Chosokabe clan. Pull up a chair and find out more…

The Chosokabe clan claim descent from the Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Despite their long history, the Chosokabe clan has had mixed fortunes, and has been under the protection of the Ichijo, who helped them to recapture their castle at Oko. Chosokabe Kunichika, the daimyo, is certainly bold and brave enough to have imperial blood in his veins: he once jumped off an Ichijo castle wall for a dare! He has now broken with the Ichijo, rebuilt Chosokabe influence, and vowed revenge on his enemies.

Kunichika can take advantages of the Chosokabe’s traditional strengths: they are phenomenal farmers, and gain extra income from their lands; they produce superb archers and cheap archer units too. With their strength concentrated in Tosa province, the Chosokabe are already at war with the Kono clan of Iyo to the northwest.

Now they have to make an interesting strategic decision: deal with their immediate enemies in Iyo, crush the Ichijo clan at home in Tosa, or attack the Miyoshi clan of Awa province. This last might seem like madness, but Awa is blessed with plentiful warhorses, a valuable resource for anyone planning to expand their clan army. The other nearby resource that will be incredibly useful is the good building stone in Sanuki to the north east. Once these immediate opportunities and problems are resolved, then who is to say the next shogun will not be a Chosokabe lord?

Thanks,

CraigTW

Red Dead Roleplay / New Redemption RP

The New Redemption RP by BluntyMike

BluntyMike, mod of the biggest and once most active RP on Red Dead Redemption, TTOTWW(thread: link), has forged a brand spankin' new RP for all people who are sick of loosely moderated and hardly structured RP's. The staff has been fine-tuning rules for over a month now and we're finally ready to get our first official session started. The product of our laborious efforts to create an RP with a tight set of rules without obstructing the level of fun is no less than the New Redemption Roleplay.

The RP itself is centred  around the town of New Redemption(Armadillo) during the 1870's and brings a wide variety of jobs and carefully balanced economy. Rules have been laid out to reduce random killing so that a never seen before level of story depth can be achieved. Story you ask? Yes, one of the main differences between NRRP and TTOTWW is that we have implemented a dynamic and evolving storyline, with new elements added each week. No more hanging around the saloon doing nothing without a goal in your life! Become part of the bigger picture.

It should be noted however that this is not your average RP. Age does not matter but we do expect MATURE BEHAVIOUR. Those who cannot abide by the rules will be given a warning and eventually get kicked. To make this work, everybody will have to contribute and prove to be a valuable part of our community. Reddead.net has always been a great source for quality roleplay and we hope to keep it that way.

You feel like signing up? First and foremost: sign up at http://newredemption.forumotions.com/forum.htm !
If you do not sign up on the forum and make a character thread, your application will not be considered valid. Secondly, be so kind as to leave your GT here. Thirdly, read the rules. We cannot emphasise that enough, if you don't know the rules, thou art screwed.

Last but not least, add BluntyMike and the mods(at least if you want an invite for a session):
Gamertags: BluntyMike, sF FiiZZy, Lilirishboy4212 and Claydon.

Ladies and gentlemen, we hope to welcome you soon!

The Saloon (Off Topic) / Equals Three =3
« on: July 24, 2010, 07:28:23 AM »
Anyone also a big fan of Ray William Johnson's 'Equals Three' on You Tube? As for myself, I absolutely love the show. Sure, the jokes are a wee bit too corny from time to time but overall he does a great job. He seems to have popularized a lot of typical internet memes and his popularity on You Tube is almost boundless. We also thank phenomena such as "squirrel aids", "surprise butt secks", "I'm doing yer mom" and more to his genius.

Here's his last video:

Gaming / Freedom Fighters
« on: July 08, 2010, 01:03:03 PM »
Some of you might have played Freedom Fighters a few years back on Gamecube, PS2 or PC. It was a great 3rd person action shooter about Chris Stone, a revolutionary plumber trying to liberate present day NYC from the shackles of the USSR in a universe with a slightly altered course of events after WWII(victory for the USSR after having bombed Germany back to the stone age). Although most critics praised the game it never sold that well and it grew rather silent around Io Interactive. In my opinion it was one of the best games ever made and it had a multiplayer with a lot of potential.
Anyone else waiting for a sequel? Gamespot says it's in the make, but for every source that acknowledges the production of a sequel, there's one denying it. Anybody have a clue?
