Red Dead Redemption was released!

Did you get caught up in any hype? Was it the same amount of hype as RDR2?

Were you a day one player or did you get the game later on?

Do you remember your first experience online?

With the foundation of Red Dead Online now established, future updates will offer new ways to fully inhabit your character as you progress in multiple roles and carve out your own place on the frontier.
Starting this summer, players will be able to take on the first three of a series of new roles: track down wanted criminals as a bounty hunter; search the world for treasure, and other exotic items to sell as a collector; or build a business at camp as a trader

I can feel a business empire ticking over in the back of my mind,  i can create a business set as a pre-qual to my empire in GTAO.

This will be such much more fun then shooting each other in PvP matches, actually building something.

So what, your level 34..... is there a great desire to rank up to an almighty high level, like the sad griefing grinders.

Everyone has forgot what Multiplayer gaming is, ever since NextGen consoles and private chat. everyone thinks Open World gaming is private game world. And treat other players as NPC characters.

I definitely agree that RDO has more to do than the old RDR. But the feel of it...the atmosphere it gives out is that of a battle royale and the feeling of "I gotta watch my back at all times". I am only a level 34, that's no one's fault but my own, but I just really don't enjoy RDO and there aren't enough things to do to level up...for me. There's no private session so I could do more leveling up and then go back to a public free roam. That other night was boring not because no one was being annoying...not that I wanted someone to but it was sad to see that there is no interaction and socialization like there was in the old RDR. No one invites you to their posse...seems like posse's are only reserved for friends now. I would always get posse invites from randoms in the old RDR. And I think the worst part is that you don't know where anyone is on the map until they are close to you. I don't like that.

Well, sorry to be a negative nancy once again. I am trying soooo hard to get used to this new game and every time I go back to it and make another attempt I am always disappointed and frankly disgusted with it. You just can't teach an old dog new tricks. You guys have to remember I am 52 years old..(I'm still a kid that doesn't want to grow up)  but...I don't like a lot of change and my gaming abilities are not as good as they used to be.

I do like the new story missions and will probably stick to that and chilling out with some friends playing poker. That was definitely a plus!

Well, I tested out free roam using the Defensive option. I was in Valentine and a few other players were there too, and no one seemed to be bothering anyone...they were just killing the townsfolk.  It was actually kinda boring...a far cry from the days of RDR1 when you rolled into town, something was always going on especially if someone started a Land Grab.  THIS is what RDO free roam is missing, sadly.
I’d disagree tbh. RDR1 free roam was incredibly bland beyond being a makeshift death match. Land grab was great(hope they add it soon), but otherwise there wasn’t much to it other than killing each other. If you find it boring now that killing each other isn’t an option I’d  wonder why griefers were ever and issue?

And defensive mode seemed to work well for me, everyone I encountered was friendly and didn’t shoot, although I found it strange that there’s almost no blips on the map, felt quite isolated at time.

I started playing again yesterday for the first time in months, and was actually impressed, which I didn’t expect at all. I thought free roam was great, and spent a good deal of time playing. Still think they could with make gang hideouts as frequent as RDR1, but we will see in future. I haven’t even played the story missions yet, so plenty more to get excited about.

In terms of showdown series, I think there better, but still not quite there yet. I’m still baffled by the matchmaking, which queues the same match two/three times in a row, and still includes terrible game modes(Name Your Weapon). I think it could do with more simple game modes, like RDR1, but I won’t deny I enjoyed myself in some(Most Wanted, the exploding bag one etc). The shame is there’s a lot of shit to get through to get to these fun game modes, but they do exist. Have yet to even find a Spoils of War game, which are pretty fun apparently. It’s a shame the varmint is still the go to weapon(if there is a better class to go to, someone please let me know).

I think we saw it in GTAO as well, but whatever physics their using for character movement aren’t as suited to PVP as RDR1, but I’m still enjoying myself.

Headshot is different now as well. I always found no matter how long I stopped playing RDO, I could always join a game and win a handful. This definitely isn’t the case after the update, missing headshots everywhere, but hopefully I’ll get use to it.

So overall was very happy with the direction the game is going, but could still do with a lot of streamlining in terms of  PVP. But it seems they actually have been listening to feedback, and I’m kind of optimistic about the future of it. Connection was an issue, and almost 10 times I got stuck in loading screens getting into Showdowns

I didn't have such a good time last night. Defensive mode is crap. I was once again minding my own business, unarmed... and this guy thought it was funny to shoot me for no reason. I had a harder time fighting back since the aiming is whacked out when in defensive. So, yea...new hostility system is garbage. Then me and a couple of friends tried to glitch off the map to Mexico...aaaand they patched that. Hanging out in Blackwater and then to Tumbleweed, we experienced something similar to the old RDR where you can't see people/horses but you can see the blip on mini-map. Don't know if we found a bad session or something but that was definitely messed up. Seems like it's worse to me.

Only good thing to come out of this update is the graphics...at least they fixed that!

i too have been spending a little more time testing the update waters in RDO ... for the most part folks are leaving me to my own however i have also had some shots fired my way ... i just turn tale and leave them alone ... but the defensive mode seems to be working ... and i don't seem to have the disconnects that i was getting before ... nice to see some positive changes and hope it continues to improve ...

I don't know what they did with all the PvP modes but I know they added another called Overrun. Maybe someone else who plays those could tell ya.

Well, I tested out free roam using the Defensive option. Anyway, had a good time playing poker with a friend and then we did one of the new story missions.  Later on switched over to story mode and the graphics are back to being amazing. What a difference!
